Calling it "the most sculpted Accord" ever, Honda has revealed the first official images of its 9th generation mid-size sedan.

In a way it carries over the traditional Accord styling we have seen over the decades, but at the same time, ushers in a modern era that clearly sets it apart from its predecessor.

The 2013 Accord offers increased passenger and cargo space compared to the previous generation, while the overall length has been noticeably shortened - offering a sportier driving experience. While not very many details have been revealed, Honda did mention the LED daytime running lights, headlights, and taillights, hinting at the technology and luxury that will be available on the next-generation Accord.

"This car is the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet," said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda. "Following Honda’s long-held philosophy of ‘man maximum, machine minimum,’ the beautiful exterior evolved from a focus on interior space and the needs of the people inside it."

As for powertrains, the new Accord will be the first model to receive the brand's new Earth Dreams engines, with a base 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a larger 3.5-liter V6, both featuring direct injection. With manual transmissions available for both, the V6 will get a 6-speed automatic while the 4-cylinder will receive a CVT.

In addition, Honda will bring to market a plug-in hybrid Accord, with up to 15 miles of emissions free driving and a charge time of just 1.5 hours.

The 2013 Honda Accord Coupe and Sedan will be heading to dealerships this fall, so we can expect more details as it nears its release.

IMO, it kid of looks similar to the 8th gen, but I am liking the LED daytime running lights, headlights and tail lights!

I am liking it. Has a good front end and the rear is much better than current.

awww...the sedan looks okay but doesnt look better than the 8th gen IMO. The coupe his so deform and unbalance. The 2009-2011 had the perfect balance

Ha..Ha.. You missed April Fools. That was 4 months ago. This is the Accord MMC.

Promising. New, fresh, easy on the eyes, yet not jarring in the sense cars like the Tauri (Tauruses?) were radical.

Innards sound encouraging as well.

In some respects, it's what the new TL could have looked like.

With apologies to the 8th gen fans on this forum, it looks a lot less like an old Buick.

I've never really associated Honda with pushing the design envelope (recent Civics and Ridgeline excepted), but some friends used to say Sonatas looked like the last Accords. May be trending the other way.

And: another exhibit for my argument that odd-gen Accords have more fluid designs and are, well, sportier than the even-gens. Speaking of sedans only. It's almost like there are two Accord design teams. . . .

......this sailor's perception (between Gen8/Gen9) is negligible..........

My Gen7 6M has over 120.000 (and - yes - I am aware it will last a lot longer).

but - again some bias here - I really have become accustomed to good fuel numbwrs plus a 14.5 QM...

I feel scuzzy about this, but I plan to test drive a BRZ shortly.

ez

Which in turn looks like a LS sedan before that... which in turn, just about EVERY car has copied by now. Same old formula, flat taillights, chrome connecting bar, and voila! Instant luxury design. But then again, that's just how cars look like today.

Hytekazn 08-08-2012 11:15 PM

There can just be so many combinations of how a car can look, so its bound to look like another car(s). If they kept the accord to the 8th gen size a litlle more with that design it would be perfect the 9th gen is so narrow. Lets hope it looks better on the lot.

Very nice design on the sedan but coupe wth happened?!

ncelk 08-09-2012 03:32 AM

This car is not going to cut it in the age of designs like the Sonata, Optima, and Fusion. Honda apparently missed the lesson of the Civic. It will make a great case study one day of how far Honda has fallen.
