9th Gen 2013 Honda Accord Coupe Concept to Bow at Detroit Auto Show

^ 8th gen concept pictured, not the 9th gen concept

Honda has announced it will debut an all-new Accord Coupe concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January and if past concepts (above) are any guess it will bear a close resemblance to the production model. In a press release Honda calls the concept “dynamic and aggressive”.

The concept foreshadows a production version of the 9th generation Accord, which will debut as a 2013 model and will go on sale in the Fall of 2012.

No details of the vehicle have been provided but Honda recently announced details that it would add direct-injection to much of its lineup, including its V6 and 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engines. Also look for the use of a CVT transmission as opposed to a conventional automatic. Honda has announced a commitment to be a leader in both fuel economy and engine output.

Definitely more evolutionary than revolutionary. It looks like a nicely upgraded design of the 8th gen coupe.

They can use the CVT so long as they don't loose the 6MT, especially on the V6. I'm kind of afraid the manual may go.

On the other hand, knowing Honda they could surprise us all and not only have the 6-6 coupe but also bring back the 6-6 sedan!

You know it does look like a GENVIII upgrade, doesn't it.........

I think we're all concerned about HMC pulling the 6M from production.

I have a case of Crown Royal that says the 6M sedan is a lost cause (numbers I would think).

Season's best, ez....

Again I am very surprised everyone and there mother has yet to comment on this, - isn't this what everyone has been waiting for and yet like the article i posted a couple weeks back said, don't expect anything dramatic -

Look at the concept - and now the reality hits - if that is as dramatic as it gets in Honda's eyes (and usually the concept is very exotic for most cars) imagine what the actual production vehicle will look like - a waterdown verson of the picture you see above - i'd say this is a huge let down - let the flood gates open bc with the CVT and this unoriginal sketch of an 8th gen

Kinda embarrassing if you ask me -

That picture is of an 8th Gen concept.

I think people are excited about the 9th Gen coupe because the 8th Gen coupe already looks nice. If the 9th Gen coupe's styling follows along with the 8th Gen coupe's, I don't think it can go wrong.

I know it's just my opinion, but I think the 8th Gen coupe would definitely be near the top of the list for Honda's nicest looking cars. Before Honda came out with this coupe, I never paid any attention to the Accord.

Uh, why do we have the 8th gen concept on the front page when discussing the 9th gen?

I thought that CVT's cannot handle high HP. I doubt they'll put it in the V6, most likely in the L4.

I wonder about the fun factor....

Nissan Maxima VQ35 V6. Maxi guys expect more hp with the next gen and we know Nissan will never go back to a geared transmission.

VQ37 powered with CVT. JATCO's next gen should be able to handle V8 power (read that somewhere).

Looks like a bloated CR-V
I still wouldnt drive with a CVT, friends Maxima has one and it disappointing me in every way possible, not to mention my 7th Gen 6-6 smokes it ...(and yes i know that is comparing apples to oranges) but still!

Think of what most customers want, smoothness. The seamless "shifts" of the CVT is what they want. Honda is listening to their customers.

I dont think most average customers know what CVT is yet even know how it drives or sounds - i can assure you that it will be a shock to all who jump in the next gen Honda and hear the thing drive without noticeable shifts ...

In my opinion its a risky move since its all or nothing now - some people may like the new look and hate the CVT or vice versa but its just another thing to add to the list that may drop Honda further down the list -

In closing three things that Honda now has to hit a grand slam with
1. New Modern Styling
2. Competing with high tech, luxury, sportyness interiors
3. A risky new transmission that has a love hate relationship depending on who you talk to

I'd say this is leading to a hell of a release - Good Luck Honda!
