Heater core replacement

My 96 Accord lx 2.2l has a heater core I suspect is blown. Turned heat on to find white smoke coming in through the vents and no more heat. I also have a coolant smell inside and I have to add coolant periodically.

I realize the labor involved is expensive. Is a replacement absolute, or should I look at anything else? Thanks.

I just got a 94 accord this so I don't know much about them, but heater cores in general are usually a pain in the ass. Check if the floor is wet under the dash from coolant possibly leaking inside. That's usually a sure fire way to tell

You'd really have to get in there and see what's going on to know if it needs to be replaced.
