Reverse LED

Anybody thought about putting LED in for the reverse lights? If so what is a good bright LED. Ive tried some ebay ones on my precious car and OE one are brighter.

Here's some...$40 for a set of two. Supposedly the stage 1 are pretty bright, but if you want to go brighter, stage 2 is only $25 more.

I had them in my 9th gen civic. It looked nice BUT when it's time to back up in really dark area you'll be hating your self for installing them. Just my 2 cents.

It really depends on the LEDs used and the housing. The reverse housing design on the 8th generation Civic sedan reflected the LED lights very well.

On my 8th gen Civic Sedan, the LED's I used lit up very well. Nice and Bright.

The LED I used was a 30 LED array of 5050 LEDs.

Those are not the right size for our Accords. Our Accords use 921/168/194 sized bulbs or LEDs. Although I wish our Accords did use that size as there are more options of bigger LED arrays for that particular size.

First thing I did to my car was replace the reverse bulbs
You need the largest bulb possible with as many LEDs possible. Making sure others know you are backing out is extremely important, if your LEDs are not bright enough, it's useless.

Keep in mind it's good for the bulb to have side firing LEDs since the reverse light socket utilizes a reflector housing.
Otherwise, a strong projector styled reverse may not be bad either

If you switch to LED reverse lights, you should look into the CREE LEDs. They cost more than the normal LED bulb but light up the road a whole lot better. I have them on my RSX but will get them for my Accord when I get it in two months.

^ Agree

Even better is that now there are some CREE style LED's with 5050 side firing LED's to fill up the housing.

And if you search hard enough there are also fully front and side firing CREE arrays.

CREE LEDs are awesome
But I think it would be better to have side firing LEDs as well
It makes it easier for others to see you.
Those bulbs arent nearly as effective during the day

The bulb I'm currently using actually used to be in my 8th gen civic
I think something like a 68 SMD LED(last i remember, i went through several sets with less LEDs before I was satisfied)
It's really bright, but I really think it's important for others to see you

cree with side firing LEDs!

I've seen HID reverses, way too bright, take too long to warm up, and unpractical lol

i need to upgrade reverse lights too. especially after i just got hit backing out of a space in the daytime.

she was 100% at fault, but i want to try avoiding the mess in the future by making it as obvious as possible that im backing up. (minus obnoxious beeping lol)

as a hobby i build replica lightsabers with high-powered LED blades. i can ask on the forums there for help. some of those guys are like LED scientists lol REALLY nerdy! i'll post here if i find anything.

It would be really interesting for someone to custom fabricate a LED board for the reverse, would be a lot of work though...

wow thanks for the link to ijdmtoy. those are impressive! i doubt i could come up with anything better than that.

makes me wonder if anyone has tried a single "straight" cree like the first pic at the top of this thread in the headlights for the "strip"?
i noticed our normal SMD style LEDs dont quite illuminate all the way to the bottom of the strip, it looses intensity. wonder if a cree would light that bad boy up like the touring headlight strips?!

thoughts, opinions? maybe post that in the strip light/LED thread(s)?
