Push Button Start on 2013 Manual!! Me Like

I was at the dealership getting some warranty work done on my 208 v6 6-6 last week. As I was there I got the salesman to let me see the new 6-6 on the lot. There is a lot of technology. Most I didn't get a chance to play with, but the feature that I love was the push button start on a manual.

Why did it take Honda this long to get this done the right way???

Because they are a company that skimps on features and finally figured it out. I love the push start and won't buy a car without it. Not even available on my '12 MDX. The same reason LED DRLs are only on the two top models while econocar Sentras get LED DRLs.

Nissan Toyota, and mazda, Mitsu, even GM have has push button start for many years. Infiniti invented the rear camera in 1999 on the 2000 Q45 and 13 years later it shows up on the Accord. I would have NEVER considered an Accord because of a lack of features until '13. How about bluetooth music streaming finally on the Accord-the 2007 Camry had that.

Give Honda credit, they have BT streaming, rear cam, and alloy wheels on the entry level LX standard. To boot, they designed the car to perform well in small overlap crashes (25% of all deaths). Search the crash test thread for spectacular video results.

Don't forget, though, the Honda S2000 is one of the first vehicles that really brought push button start to the public eye, nearly 15 years ago!

Dont forget, you had to stick a key in the slot, twist, then hit the push button start. My neighbor has one so I know this for a fact.

Watch the first 1:30 of this video. Not impressed, this so called push button start is just an extra step that is completely useless. Why not have the car just start when you turn the key like every other car on the planet at the time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO4_XzePbg4

The key word here is keyless start i.e. the fob stays in the pocket. I should have said keyless start rather than push button which means nothing. Mercedes in 1998 in Europe pioneered "Keyless Go" which is still an extra cost option on several of their models today-shameful when Sentras, Mazda 3s, et.al have it.

Keys are so 100 years ago (including the S2000). BMW had similar shennanagins on early to late 2000s 750; put the key in and then push the button-no excuse on a car costing $80K+

I know how you feel. I kept looking at the TSX for the past few years, each year hoping that it would have the keyless start. Each year I would be disappointed, even though Acura advertising is always talking about "innovation" and "technology". No keyless start is one reason why my friend went with Infiniti instead of the MDX.

Not only did Honda finally get on the bandwagon and get keyless start, but I really like how you can just grab the handle naturally to unlock. Not all keyless start cars are like that (I know my 09 Infiniti G37 sedan wasn't).

I plan on keeping this 2013 Accord for as long as possible (~15 years) so maybe by that time, all the new features showing up on other cars these days will finally make it into the next Accord.

Never thought push button was that important or cool but checked out a new 2013 while getting some wiper refills today. I'll give credit where due... It's kinda neat.

Agreed! I'm excited to have such a useful feature, given my delight at Nissan's (Altima rental car) and Toyota's (09' Prius I borrowed).

You're right about the S2000 being a pointless show-y feature. I suppose they wanted to mimic modern motorcycle pushbutton starts (since the original S500 roadsters were motorcycle based?). Who knows.

Hey guys. First time, long time. EX-L V6 with 1000 miles.

My last accord was a 99 V6 Coupe, which hadn't even dreamt of a push-button start yet. However, today I ran into a problem that my old timey key car didn't have.

I park and want to chill in my car while listening to stitcher via bluetooth. There is no way to go from engine running to accessory only without turning the whole car off, correct?

So I'll always have to wait for a bluetooth reconnect?

#firstworldproblems.

There is a way that can only be discovered over 2600 miles of driving.

Leave the car in gear, (foot on brake please) turn it off, radio /BT stays on, it will beep to remind you that you are not in park.

DON'T FORGET TO PUT IT IN PARK IMMEDIATELY.

It is a good idea to set the parking brake even on flat roads-I do 100% of the time and Honda's great hand brake which serves as a true manual emergency brake is perfect. All those runaway Camry drivers could have used one and an electronic park brake is useless in an emergency and a foot operated brake is impossible to modulate in an emergency but better than nothing.

A hand brake can be exquisitely controlled by holding in the release button and you can then feather the braking as to not lock a wheel-can't be done with a foot park brake that requires a full push to the floor to release or with an electronic brake (which may sense you are moving at 60 mph and refuse to engage just like the tranny won't thift to R if moving at 60.

Of note, My 12 MDX (not the 04) has a manual release handle for the foot brake-this system serves as a good alternative to the hand brake; activate by foot pressing and release with the handle-just like my 80 300SD

Correct, not all keyless starts are the same. Honda did a superb job on the electronic unlock upon touching the handle (driver and passenger only-unnecessary on rear doors).

MB's original keyeless go in Europe was a wallet card. Approach the car and it unlocked within 5 ft. Get in, hit the button and go. Stop, hit the off button, get out walk away and after 5 ft it automatically locks. I don't think that system ever made it to the US.

.
Do you know if there is a way to unlock all the doors but just touching the drivers side handle?

Also how sensative is the distance? when I am standing near the drivers side door, my wife is unable to open her door, but I was able to do it when I walked around to her side

Thanks! I haven't had too much time to play around with the car yet. Was only able to go through the the small manual with all the inside toys

^^^ Yep, all kinds of settings in the dash menu (Finally- my 05 300C had similar menu set ups). You can set preferences for door lock/unlock, fob settings, and a host of other things-Finally on an Accord.
