my accord, 8th gen, was horrible on gas until around 5000kms. I babied it for the most part, and was shocked at how bad it was. Driving like grandma doesn't help at all either. Just normal, sensible acceleration just does best. We also have a lot of hills, and all city driving. Comparing to others by just numbers is useless. Every city and location has too many different factors.

fyi, I just filled up today. 300kms out of a tank! Its been crazy cold here, so long warm ups,and we have gotten nailed with day after day of snow and its always wheel spinning slippery.

Winter is not the time to judge my mpg

If additives really did anything substantial to your engine, every gas station would be using them. Their effect is negligible, at best.

I'm not buying the whole, "I get better mileage when I buy from..." argument. The only exception would be if one place/brand sold "pure" gas (no ethanol) vs. the usual 5-10% mix, which will make a difference in overall mileage, since ethanol contains less energy.

Not to butt heads with you on this but just because a internet article says it isnt true I am experiancing different. Also my information comes first hand as I have two friends in the Gasoline buisness who broker gas for a living and the budget gas places buy and mix gas from several places. Each company has different formulas.

Agree to disagree, then.

Why are new Accords being driven around in winter snow to result in bad mpg in the first place?

That's a job for a winter beater.

Who am I to trust? - A person on the internet who can't even spell "business" or "experiencing"...someone who says they've got two friends in the business? A WHOLE 2 FRIENDS?!?!

Well, gee golly, you certainly MUST have more credibility than a certified fuel lab (the Maryland Fuel Testing Laboratory)......

Keep patting yourself on the back as you get overcharged for the same product. There's a ****er born every minute - thanks for proving that.

This is absolutely not true. ECON will always save you gas 'IF' you drive conservatively. If your going to put ECON on and drive with a lead foot, whats the point. I have tested my car with ECON on and of several times now and the mileage is always slightly better with it on, city or highway.

You also have to remember that if you let the car idle for extended periods, that all gets factored in to the number the computer tells you. eg..the more you idle, the worse your number.. The computer calculates total number of kms per litres of gas used since the last fill up,...not just gas used when you are moving.

Concerning ECO mode and it forcing you to use more gas by making your engine work hard - No. Stop. Just stop. You have failed to understand the whole mechanism behind ECO mode. The ECO mode does nothing but slow your throttle response and force your transmission to stay in high gears for longer. It's impossible for it to make your car work harder - the whole point is to slow you down, dulling your inputs and forcing your engine to work at a lower RPM. On a side note - If you overcompensate by pushing harder on your gas pedal while in ECO mode, you are defeating the whole purpose of using ECO mode and will see no benefit.
EXACTLY !!!! If your going to drive with a lead foot, your kind of defeating the whole point of ECO mode. If you want to save gas, enable ECO mode "AND DRIVE CONSERVATIVELY"...it's not rocket science people.

I don't understand people that use the Eco button on a v6. Should have just bought the 4cyl, which moves around just fine. My brother bought the Turbo Sonata, and uses the Eco button. Just not logical.

Because there are times when people want the power, but then want to save some fuel if possible while driving normally. These people would rather have the power than the fuel savings.

On my way to work, in heavy traffic, I'm not going to wow anyone with my acceleration, so I might as well put my V6 in Econ mode and just chill.

It's "misspelled" and "didn't". You're welcome. ^_^

I'm trying to figure out what this means - it's not even a sentence. I'm starting to wonder how people like you even come up with the money to buy an Accord. I mean, it's not too expensive, but the average person who doesn't graduate high school generally doesn't make a salary above the poverty line. With your writing skills...there's certainly no way you made it out of middle school, let alone possess a diploma. Did your parents buy the car for you?

Again, why do you think your two friends have authority over a certified fuel lab?
