It is tough to lift the cover. I love my 7th gen, but they made changing the air filter much more difficult than it was on the 6th gen. Not sure why that was necessary.
I changed my air filter just last night. Pushed on that thing so hard that the air hose came off it.

I too was changing my filter out, putting a drop in K&N, and snapped off the lip of the upper half of the airbox. It seems to seal well against the rubber of the K&N, but i'm trying to track down the stock top of the airbox, as I dont want to put a CAI or SRI on a sedan lol. Oh and first post! yay me!

I had torn the air tube going to the throttlebody, and cracked the lip on the cover. I finally did something about it. It might not look so hot, but I change my filter easily now. I need to do a little more cosmetic work to it (flatten and paint the metal fender flange), but I don't have to worry about breaking anything now.
You might want to check your air tubes for splits at the bottom near the throttlebody. You could be letting in unfiltered air.

Thank you guys for the inputs.
Yes I agree its a big pain. I would expect a company like Honda to be more wise with such things. But nonetheless it's a great car.
The crack is just around the rim so I guess it should be ok.

I took the lid off mine and put an Amsoil synthetic filter on. It rests in the box for the cool air return. Simple and effective
