This break in text by Honda is a joke.... it's written in small font in page four hundred something of their manual... It's just there because it's been there in every manuals for the past 50 years...

At the age of nearly 100% aluminum engines, Nikasil treated cylinders, micron precision in engine build... please, forget about that.... we're past that and it's been absolutely useless for a quite a while actually...

Exclamation

My last car, I drove it off the lot and then beat the Holy Sh!t out of it, I was living on the Red Line just about every time I got behind the wheel, so yes two camps, one break it in like it's a 57 283 and the other camp, break it in like a F1 in the heat of battle.

I just broke 200 miles today, I've been above 100 MPH several times + I don't baby it one bit, But I won't tell others how to break in, just read the manual and make a decision for yourself-->

I don't think driving it at 100mph puts that much a strain on the engine. In virtual 7th gear, the rpms stay pretty low. But redlining the engine is what I'm refraining from until I hit 600 miles on the odometer. Once I reach that, I'll rarely see green arcs around my speedometer. Those things will be white all the time.

I don't pussyfoot my way to 100 mph+, I have it floored and red lined,,,I also get on it (red line) in town (W/O traffic around)...YES, I love the feel of Gs, although this car is mild not wild.

I'm with you brotha. When I hit 600 miles on the odometer, I'm contacting mission control cuz it's time to BLAST OFF!

I can't wait to hit 600 myself! Then I can really play with the paddle shifters!

I drive it as normal. I think if it is important, Honda would have a section for "Break in Period" than a small font as the side note.

I had the 06 Odyssey before, when I picked it up, drive to work for 50 miles for first day, then second day, I put in 500 miles road trip.... after a week road trip, I got back with OD read 1200 miles....

Just bought a Sport myself, and saw this thread. I stopped by the service department and asked about this break-in period. They directed me to the sales guys and all 3 that were standing there told me there was absolutely no break-in period on these new engines. I'm still babying the car, but with the aluminum engines, etc, they said these engines were so tight there was no reason to baby it and absolutely no break-in period on the new Hondas. I'm nearly at 600 miles and will err on the side of caution but that's what I heard.

Thumbs up

I am just about at 600 miles now on my Sport CVT and got on it good on the way home from work, this baby moves!

I have taken it easy, nothing over 5k on the tach. Greatest thing is that I have only filled it up once with gas.
