Big regrets if you "downgrade"
If you were upgrading then I can see why you would want something else but you have a car that you know maintainance history and driving habits 100%. Why gamble on a used car?
You should evaluate and write down the pros and cons of your current accord. Next, start looking at the used cars online and doing research on the reliability and repair records on forums for a few months.
It's hard to imagine a more reliable car in this price range. If its just a Point A to Point B rig then why change? A few hundred bucks in repairs now will get you another 50k miles.
What is it that you ultimately are looking for that you think the Accord lacks?

If your car is approaching the end of your 'range', then there is nothing wrong with trading in for something near the beginning.

Very interesting theory on car ownership. I would agree that it probably holds true most of the time, but I would be in a different category. I look for a decent used Honda in the 50-100k mile range, do great maintenance, and keep it until someone totals it for me. That has been how/why I got rid of my last three Hondas.
