Arrow ((( Warning ))) "Engine Start/Stop Button"

The Wife & I went to one of our Grand-Kids Hockey tournament this past weekend, we were running late, found a place to park and hurried to get in the arena, after being in the arena for awhile, I wanted to take some pictures, but I left my cell in the car, so I went to retrieve it, as I approached the car, to my "Horror" I realized it was still running!!

If this would of happened in my Garage...

Take it from me, it's easy to get distracted when your in a hurry and drop your guard, lose focus or whatever, Not having to remove a key to shut off the car could become Fatal, because you developed a new habit that does not include the step of removing a key.

Wish I could program the car to shut off when the FOB is away from the car while it's still running, I have looked thru the manual and can't find a way to do that (still looking).

It's Stupid, Irresponsible & Embarrassing to admit what I did, but, I want to bring it to every-one's attention, don't do what I did.

I wonder if Honda has thought about allowing to program it and shot it down or like the airbag for the passenger when no one in seat the air bag shuts down...What would attorneys have to think about this?

I think the push button is neat but for myself, the removing of the key would be needed to completely instill the fact that the car is off. It sort of would worry/freak me out.

Did you not hear the ringing when you got out of the car (assuming you didn't leave the smart key in the car either)?

Good lookin out Husker, I am very interested in this as well
We have heard the beeping at us but it sure would be a gr8 feature if the FOB was a certain dist away or you could program it (software) in some way to shut the engine off. Conversely (especially in cold climate) or to make a "quick stop" I can see the point on leaving it running but you have to be SO AWARE as to the location you left the FOB. Some people put in the cup holder or some OTHER cuby and have so much on their mind that they FORGET about it. So easy for someone to come up and steal it while its running if the FOB is in it

I don't get the allure of start/stop button. Is it that difficult to turn a key?

Re: ((( Warning ))) "Engine Start/Stop Button"

Everytime I get out of my car I lock it by pressing the lock button on the door handle and when I walk away to a building or house I pull my fob and re-lock my car until I hear the beep beep. That's just me, but i don't see an issue unless your a careless person. I don't know of a manufacture that turns off when the fob goes away from the car.

This is a known issue with "smart keys" and there have already been reported cases:

Yes, it is that hard. Keys are so 100 years ago.

In addition to keys being "beneath me", keychains have mangled more knees and legs in crashes than you can imagine (my brother is an Orthopedic surgeon and has fixed many split knee caps and removed impaled objects from keychains). That does not mitigate the risk of death from CO poisining if a car is left runing in a garage. This technology has been around in Europe since the late '90s and we have not heard of CO deaths but it is a real potential-Thanks for the heads up Husker. I have a similar but unrelated warning coming post haste.

If they're carless, then they have nothing to worry about.

Dan, its a HUGE convienence not having to fumble for the key or remembering where you put your key to start/lock/ or unlock, a person just needs to be focused and aware that the FOB imposes a new human responsiblity with its use.
Also, try looking at the good things as well as bad to every situation before you post, that way you can write both positive and negative comments and someone MAY learn from your post's

I'm in NO way knocking you just trying to help the world see that there are always two sides to every coin and be helpful in the process

Same here, 100% listen for the beep and teach the kids too. We were going into Bob Evans and I missed the beep, look back and jr2 left the door open. No yelling just a good teachable moment for all the kids.

I remember reading something in the manual about the car shutting off after 30 minutes if in park. I think it's in the FOB section.

Then again, if the car is running for 30 minnutes in an enclosed garage, is that enough to cause health problems or even death? 30 minutes seems like a long time....
