Strange noise

From a stop with the front wheels turned more than three quarters to lock and under heavier than normal acceleration I get a weird rubbing noise from the front wheels. If I'm going left it comes from the left side, going right it comes from the right side. There is no noise at speed on corners or any other symtom. It only happens from a stop or under 15 mph. This isn't the normal clicking you get from bad drive shaft joints. Is this normal and if not what could it be?Haven't owned a front wheel drive car in 20yrs.thanks

Is your car lowered? If so, it could be the tires rubbing against the fender. Need to 'roll' the fenders in that case.

Put the car on jack stands and have someone apply gas and turn the wheels.

I'm hoping ot goes away when it warms up.Never noticed it in the 5 months I have owned it but now it's super cold -23C.i have to look and see if there is some ice built up the wheel wells. But i would think the members here would know if that was the case.It really bothers me because both sides do it meaning it may be something common upstream of the output shafts(bad news).but then I don't know front wheel drives so.....How long have you had it?

Can you describe the noise? Is it like a high pitch squealing? If so, its probably the power steering system low on fluid or maybe the fluid is just so cold that its somehow affecting the system.

For me it only happens when it's very cold and when I'm accelerating while the steering wheel is turned. If I let go of the throttle it stops. Steering fluid is at the full mark. The noise is not high pitch but more metal to metal. I'm thinking the axels since it's only when turning and there is load on them but not ready to spend $ on new ones. It stops after a few minutes of driving. Definitely not ice build up because it's dry here. Mines been during this since the first winter I had it, so 5 years now. Btw it is a 2005 v6 6 speed.

^^^^Thats exactly what my car does. The fact that you have had it for the last 5 years with no other issues means it's likely not something huge and is what I was hoping to hear, feeling a little better about it now so thanks. The noise pulsates like the wost bad bearing you've ever heard. The front end seems to be tight and quiet at all other times.

I noticed mine doing this as well. It has been below zero here as well. Just happens in the morning when it's brutally cold. I'm thinking maybe the cv axle outer joints are cold and tight. It only happens when I'm turning rather tight. I had an idea of heating up the outer joints with my heat gun, and going for a test drive.

They said there are two issues.Either the power steering pump 0 ring is shrinking and ****ing air causing the fluid to foam up or the inboard joints are becoming tight as the grease is stiff from the cold .Both are common issues and only the O ring is cost effective to fix but he wouldn't bother if it only does it for a short time in extremely cold conditions. He said to just go easy on it until the car warms up.I think you here pretty well hit the nail on the head.
