No definitely wouldn't be buying anything crazy like that.. Just a simple spring compressor that uses a socket to tighten down..

Well I definitely plan on getting an alignment afterwards, hopefully that will do the trick for me since the teins only drop "up to" 1.5".

With that "little" of a drop camber shouldn't be a problem. Toe is what you need to worry about. If you buy new springs you should wait until you get 500 miles on them before having the alignment checked.

I've lowered my car on the Eibach Pro-Kit springs and Koni FSD shocks. It's a match made in heaven.......if height and dampening adjustment is not your thing - it was not for me.

I installed the single camber arm from SPC. But it was not sufficient to bring the camber back to spec. I ordered the J-power 3arm camber kit and installed only two (toe and trailing) arms while keeping the SPC camber arm. This brought back the rear camber and toe in spec.

I'm still a noob with fat fingers so I got the installation done at a professional workshop. Cost me some $$$ but the end result was worth it.

I know a lot of people will say not to, but I've decided that I am going to buy a set of Tein S-tech springs for my 10' LX-S coupe and slap them on the stock struts.. Money is extremely tight and a coilover kit is not in the cards right now. Plus I had springs on my 99' prelude's stock struts for over 80K with no problems so I'll take my chances

I've never used a spring tool for removing springs from the struts before and heard they can be VERY dangerous. I was wondering how difficult the install really is, including the use of this tool. *note i don't have any air tools, this will all be done with hand tools..

I've seen it in action, youtube videos, etc. but I want to be SURE that I can handle this before I go jumping into anything here.

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being most difficult) how would you guys rate a spring job?

I am definitely mechanically inclined, have replaced a clutch on my motorcycle with 0 knowledge on how to do so...I've done brakes, oil changes, plugs, CV axle, upper control arm, etc...
Removing the stock strut/spring assembly seems easy enough, I'm just worried about the spring removal/re-installation..

So what do you think... go for it or just bring it to a shop?
If I were to bring it to a shop, what would be a fair price to pay for the install only on a set of springs? (I am in the Long Island/NYC area so mind you prices will be more than most other places I'm assuming)

Thanks in advance...
Nothing wrong with using lowering springs. Your stock struts might break but there are alternatives if they do. The KYB G2 for instance can handle lowering because it was designed for old/bad/distressed suspensions. Or you might get the G2s to begin with to save you some troubles later.

I love my TEIN Street Basis coilovers, so I'm sure the TEIN S.Tech springs will give you good service.

Personally, with progressive springs, I'd be inclined to let a shop do it -- but then, for the money that would cost you, you could get an inexpensive set of coilovers. So I understand your reluctance.

Ground Control actually sells a coilover conversion kit for our cars now.

http://www.ground-control-store.com/...p/II=815/CA=76

and that would give you the option of adjusting ride height. It is designed to work with your stock dampers.

There's somebody selling a combined springs/G2 dampers kit on EBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KYB-Struts-S...93a7fa&vxp=mtr

and of course, if you are willing to go with no-name lowering springs, they have those very inexpensively on EBay. That could make up for the price of a pro install, or you can do it yourself with a spring tool borrowed or rented from an auto parts store.

Good luck to you.

If you're talking about the kyb GR2's I have to disagree. They are not intended to be used with lowering springs. They are an OE replacement and when I paired them with tein s-techs they barely lasted 40k miles.

koni yellows are made for lowered cars and are the best with adjustable dampening and they make them for the accord.

for the price of the springs + shocks(koni) doesnt it just make sense to save up for a bit longer and get coil overs? something like the megan's ezstreet?

I think they are saying if I do put the springs on stock struts and they blow, that would be my option..

If I were going to buy springs and struts I would surely just save for some coilovers instead.

Reason I decided to get the springs is they will cost me $210, coilovers will cost me $750.. Money is tight right now, if I put the springs on stock struts and they last 1-2 years, I can have my drop in the meantime and then buy some good aftermarket struts when I need to.. I don't want to slam the car so adjusting my height isn't much of an issue for me, another reason I'm going with springs. I like the height that the Tein S-techs leave the coupe so I'm sure I will be satisfied when all is said and done.

Wish it would warm up outside already! These 15 degree mornings are the WORST!

Mannn glen..your making me have second thoughts about lowering in general!

Good part is I will save the labor because I will be doing the install myself.

Lets hope my stock struts last as long as the ones on my prelude did!

if you can save the labor it's not too bad...I'm not preaching here...I mounted springs and about 4 months later ripped them out as I wanted adjust ability (OCD) and the eibachs creeked like hell and were installed right...

and it cost me about 750.....

Buy megan racing springs. They are 150. They are meant for v6 but will fit the i4. I have them. 1.75-2 inch drop

I will be going coils this summer though. 10k miles + -5 cambered no issues daily driven.
