WOW!
I am a bit late on this, as I never see this thread on top as much as the others. I know for a fact Bluetooth bandwidth supports at least 700kbs, and can support 512kbs stereo. Something odd about how limited Apple has become since earbuds being above 100db on ipods. We have a ipod classic gen 7. Though base output is not limited one bit, in fact we have to make sure our settings on the head unit are flat to no over push highs and lows. To be truthful about what peeps say about digital quality, the source is for the most part the issue. XM does have some clean and full sounding music, though the issue is the sound sources they pull from their library. I have some CDs that can't beat Type IV cassette tape recordings. SACD and DTS Music disc are the best unless you move to AAC or Flac recordings for media storage. One note, having a connection from the ipod phone jack or through data connector is the best way to have true quality playback. Most USB reader connections are simple mp3 decoders within the head unit or as a add-on option.

XM has yet to impress me. Of all the digital formats it sounds the most compressed. I will most likely not pay for the service once the trial subscription runs out. Who needs it when there are better sounding options like Pandora and iheart. Aha is ok when it works.

To bad Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab went out of business, I scored some of my favorite music from them years ago, I have them on vinyl but reluctantly replaced with CDs and these Original Master Recording CDs were as close if not better than Vinyl.
I haven't tried it yet but I think I'll load them into the Accord. |

That reference to MFSL recordings says it all really. I have a number of these on vinyl and despite being nearly 30 years old - hell they are that old - they still sound magnificent. And its really the same with CD versus DVD-A etc - it's the care that went into the actually recording/mix rather than any inherent superiority of the media that matters. Plenty of evidence out there that human ears can't distinguish between the same recording on 16 and 24 bit recordings...
eg "at a recent meeting of the Audio Engineering Society by E. Brad Meyer and David R. Moran, longtime audio enthusiasts and members of the Boston Audio Society, showed that listeners were unable to detect the presence of a 44.1-kHz, 16-bit A-to-D and D-to-A converter when it was inserted as a filter in the two-channel analog output from a high-end DVD-A/SACD player. (DVD-Audio uses a 192-kHz/24-bit PCM system and SACD uses Sonys 1-bit/2.8442 MHz Direct Stream Digital system.) The results of the study are published in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, September 2007 (Volume 55, Number 9). After hundreds of double-blind listening comparisons, the test subjects who participated were unable to distinguish any change in the SACD or DVD-Audio signals when they were filtered by the standard two-channel 16-bit/44.1-kHz CD system, which means that imposing a 44.1-kHz sampling rate and 16-bit dynamic range onto the SACD/DVD-Audio signals in no way degraded the music signals." XM could be pretty good - but it isnt as the signals get so much compression. FM can sound really good too (if you have lived in the UK and heard some live broadcasts on the BBC through a decent tuner you'd know) - the 15KHz cut off doesnt matter now I can't quite hear that high anyway - but it didnt matter much even when i could). Why BT audio has its low frequencies cut off in the Accords is really strange but I think you're right - for whatever reason the sub does not work at all on BT streaming. It still sounds a whole lot better than FM or XM though. |

I downloaded the Eq App nice but volume is lower when toggeling between the app and iphone music. More bass on the phone but it looks like BT streaming simply cuts off the bass or the sub can not receive the signal as suggested by a77. I am 99% certain that is correct. I actually like the system for MP3 discs and USB music. It is pretty good and sounds about like I would expect for a good factory unit.

I wonder how long the reflash takes, and how the dealers are being prepped for this. I'm not going in at all as mine's OK on USB. But for the next few months, I gotta think they are gonna be jammed...
hope there is not a lot of waiting in the little room with the bad coffee and TV....

I'll check. I never use those and aha has never worked from day 1. I'll need to check Pandora. I am not convinced at all that it will make any difference since it is playing wirelessly through the phone and the sub will lkely be cut out anyway.
