Great choice, Tony - you'll love the upgrade of the Accord compared to the Civic. Oh, and welcome

wow..I'm assuming its a common thing to change the ATF? That was going to be the first thing on my to do list. The car does some hard shifting. Good thing after looking at this forum I know that it isn't normal. Thanks guys!

Well the V6 5AT automatics have had their fair share of failures over the years, it is better to pay a couple bucks now to do a 3x drain & fill then pay $2000 for a new transmission later on. I bought my car at 21k miles and did a 3x D&F at 25k - plan on doing 1 every 25k miles. I just ordered a case (12) of OEM Honda DW-1 (new ATF - supersedes the old Z1 formula), new drain plug washer and new fill plug washer from Majestic Honda (2006-2007 Honda Accord Maintenance Items)

The great thing about our V6 engines is that we actually have a fill plug (17mm bolt that is torqued down very tight - use an extension and breaker bar and prepare for your shoulder to feel like it's about to pop out of the socket the first time it's loosened lol You don't need to tighten it back down that tight afterwards) instead of using a dipstick to refill the 3-3.5 qts you'll be draining out. Always remember to use a catch pan that has measurements on it so you can put in exact how much you took out

The drain plug is located behind the driver front tire, at the bottom right side of the transmission (if you are looking towards the front of the car). It takes a 3/8" ratchet w/o a socket. I would remove your fill plug before draining, though, as you'll get a better drain.

#1. Remove fill plug and replace washer ($3.14 but peace of mind)
#2. Remove drain plug and replace washer ($1.49)
#3. Assess the drain plug magnet for how many metal shavings are attached to determine how well your transmission is doing. A little bit a shavings is completely normal. A huge amount, or big clump, start praying to the transmission Gods lol
#4. Allow the transmission fluid to fully stop draining into the catch pan
#5. Re-torque down the transmission drain bolt to OEM spec w/ new washer
#6. Grab a transmission funnel with a long tube and insert into the fill plug
#7. Replace the ATF fluid in the exact amount that you measure in your catch pan
#8. Re-torque down the fill plug
#9. Restart the car and with your foot on the brake, continue to shift through each gear [P] [N] [D] etc. leaving it in each setting for about 30-60 seconds to allow the fluid to generously coat each gear.
#10. Safely discard of the old ATF
#11. Take the car for a 15-20 minute drive, that allows for every kind of driving, and hitting every gear (1-5)
#12. Repeat the process two more times to ensure that all of the fluid has been replaced and is nice and pink. You don't have to do all 3 D&F's in one day. Some people like to do 1 D&F at every oil change.

Hope this helps!

Sure can, you can do em however close or spaced out you'd like to - you'll feel a major difference in smoothness too, I did and mine only had 25k miles

Welcome to DA!

I was just thinking today how doing the rear sway bar on my 05 coupe was a great upgrade. It's a fairly simple upgrade if you can get the screws off the end links - which was the tough part for me being a novice.
