Adding: Direct Port Injection, Less Friction, Less Weight, Higher Compression, Revised VTEC and i-VTEC along with all new integrated exhaust manifolds. The 2013 Honda Accord Sport gets 190hp/185lb-ft thanks to a slight ECU tune and larger exhaust piping and higher flow Cat. Also, the K24W series are mounted differently from the previous K series engines. They are mounted like traditional Honda engines, with the integrated exhaust manifold in the front and intake manifold in the back. Gotta love wikipedia. The K24W1 is what my 6MT Sport has under the hood. You can delete the rest and all of its contradictory info.

Re: Accord Earth Dreams Specs
What I still haven't found out is if our accords are vtec only on intake valves or also on exhaust

This K has a pretty fat midrange compared to other K24s with similar specs but on premium gas. I doubt Honda accomplished this with less valve control.

Keep in mind people that this is Wikipedia. Prone to inaccurate information.
The exhaust pipe is not larger on the Sport model and the catalytic converter is not a higher flowing piece.

Personally I prefer the V6-6MT Nightmare.

Yeah, some of that wiki info is bunk, starting with the HP/TQ ratings for some of the engines.
As for VTEC, it's only on the intake. The only intake/exhaust VTEC engine Honda currently makes, anymore, is the J37 (and not all J37 engines - just the one in the TL sedan, iirc), which is, neatly, a SOHC engine. |

![]() However, on most SOHC setups, there isn't enough space for multiple lobes for both the intake, exhaust, and spark plugs! The J37 V6 uses Y-shaped rockers to get around that, however, there are some disadvantages with this (even with a 3-lobe setup, it is impossible to do the partial intake valve deactivation Honda implements on several of their VTEC systems, which helps with low end torque [think Buick pinhead V8], fuel economy, and emissions [intake vortex]). Actually, on the low end torque loss with the intake/exhaust SOHC VTEC setup, that's probably why the MDX J37 only has intake VTEC - so the intake camshaft can deactivate half of the intake valves, for better low-RPM torque, as is expected for a big engine powering a big car. |

I'm saying the J isn't the only Honda with I/E triple lobe action. Civic Si/ILX/TSX K24s all have two cams full of vtec - they just retard or advance the intake cam (I-VTEC bonus).

![]() I'm sorry. However, there are no current dual VTEC implementations outside of the TL J37. Name any car, I'll find the documents from Honda supporting this claim. EDIT: or you could go to the source, too! hondanews.com <--it's where Honda puts all of their more detailed press releases and technical info (short of say, a SAE publication). I stand corrected, VTEC as it originated is gone. Glad I kept my H22 Accord so I can be crotchety.
And when I looked at that Hondanews site it stated that the Sport has a higher flowing exhaust (52%) and that is the reason for the 4hp. So that was helpful. |
