For those with BC Coilovers

Hey everyone, I was interested in purchasing some BC coilovers but my biggest concern was how much of a drop will it be at its highest setting? Ive looked in many places but have yet to find the answer. I know that the coilovers can go pretty low but also needed to know if i can just drop one inch if i need to go on a trip or something. If at its highest setting is 2 inches drop, then i would probably just pick up the HFP suspension. But having that option to go lower and adjust ability is a huge plus. I know that putting the bc coilovers at its highest setting will be less than stock setting but just needed to how much.

Thanks ahead for all the responses.

i run BC and for winter i am slightly above HFP height. at the highest setting you may even be higher than stock, in fact.

winter mode:

summer drop (i'll go lower this spring):

you'll not want to raise up or down on a whim since you should get an alignment whenever you change the height significantly. generally most people think that way until they see how beautiful their car looks low. you'll see

Would you compare it to the tein suspension or do you feel that it surpasses it and that's not a bad price

Not saying Tein or BC are good or bad, but you're just going to accept someone's opinion especially when there's nothing to back it up?

I cant really comment on the comparison between BCs and Tiens, but my deciding factor was the fact that you have to use your stock top hats on the tiens. I wanted an all-in solution with great reliability so i went with BCs myself...

Well i've done some research on the bc and tein and drove a few cars with both and I was already leaning towards bc since I liked it better and my friend gets a discount

TEINs have a great reputation for build quality and application-specific fitment. BCs are not better coilovers than TEINS -- in fact, I would suggest that TEINs are probably actually better quality in terms of construction, since they are made in Japan at TEIN's factory rather than being generically sourced from Chinese manufacturers. Moreover the fact that TEINs use stock top hats makes them a better fit for the automobile, and you won't have the clunking and squeaking that tends to accompany coilovers with a generic fitment.

However, that isn't to say BCs are bad. TEIN (like Koni) uses a high-quality twin tube construction that will be durable over time (unless you get the Mono Flex or racing coilovers, which aren't available in this application yet). Twin tube construction lasts longer because it is less vulnerable to impact damage, and TEIN is known to make very good dampers -- good dampers are harder to get and more expensive than good springs. The BCs use a monotube construction -- this can provide better performance on the track but it is likely to fail sooner, and will be more expensive to repair. TEINs are rebuildable and revalvable. I'm not sure about BCs, but I know BC makes the Megan coilovers and those aren't rebuildable.

My suggestion is that you research the issue of what you want out of your coilovers, and consider how much trouble you are willing to go to when it comes time to adjust the height. Personally I set the height at a level I felt comfortable with and decided to leave it alone otherwise. Particularly if you get a 4 corner balance, you wouldn't want to mess with the height anyway.

If quality, warranty, price and other factors concern you, give some consideration to Ground Control coilover sleeves with Eibach linear springs (9 or 10 kgf front and 5 or 6 kgf rear) and the Koni FSD shocks, which would support moderate lowering without damaging the damper. If FSD is good enough for McLaren it is good enough for us.

Good luck to you in your selection. Don't be in too big a hurry -- there are a lot of options out there and all of them come with some compromises.

If you are going to go with TEINS, I highly suggest going with the higher up models. I had the TEIN Basics which were not very good at all. I wanted stiffness, but with no dampening adjustment, it was way too soft. A friend of mine on the other hand has a MR2, and her TEIN Basics are stiff as f***, it just really depends on the application. For our cars, I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for stiffness or trying to go low (I was maxed out and it still wasn't very low). I am running Function n Form type 2's right now and the ride is better than TEIN's for now. I have only had them for a couple of months but I like that they at least have the dampening adjustment, although they, too, aren't as stiff as I would like em but whatever, you get what you paid for. I am hoping to upgrade in the future to BC Racing coils, if not, bags definitely. One of the things I like about BC Racing is that with your order, you can custom order spring rates and I HEARD (not confirmed) that you can actually get a custom strut made if you even want to go lower. I dunno about that last bit, but I am totally in for stiffer springs (maybe I should get those for my function n form type 2's but I am not looking to spend more on suspension at this time)

Please note that everything is a matter of my opinion too. Other people have have different opinions about different products. My opinion is that I think pretty highly of BC Racing, and I would only suggest TEIN if you are going to get the higher model coilovers that are meant for tracking your car. Good luck
