Price, for the most part. The Classics are significantly cheaper than a comperable new body-style Silverado with dealer discounts and GM rebates. It's nice to have the latest and the greatest, but I personally like the older body-style better (I also like the interior layout better, although I do admit that the new interiors are of much better quality and fit and finish) Dad didn't care, he's not out to impress the neighbors. We saved nearly $10,000 by going with the Classic over the new Silverado.

Figured that much at least. Then again, if I had it my way, when we got our '97 Odyssey at the end of '97, we would have traded in our '92 Geo Metro LSi convertible instead of my mom's (much missed) '90 Accord sedan EX 5MT. I figure, at the time, the difference wouldn't have been that much. The Accord had an MSRP around $17,000-$18,000 brand new, and the Metro was around $13,000. The Accord was 2.5 years older than the Metro.

aha gotcha. i really like the new ones. the 900 is a HUGE step up from the 800 platform.

Im surprised you prefer the old interiors to the new. the new interiors are really really nice.

exactly. plus they cant switch over immediatly to the 900 platform. it takes time for the tooling and assembly lines to get into place for the new platform.

GM does this a lot. They did it with the Malibu as well. I think they did this to help out their commercial lines. This way, they can sell cheap high volume trucks to businesses cheap and save their production of the new GMT 900 truck for the stupid Americans to pay sticker price.

Best of both worlds until the new truck gets cheaper. When the GMT 900 becomes less in demand, you will see the "classic" go away.

plus a lot of the stuff you see on dealer lots is still 06 production. They had 100 days of sales left. Production of the 800 silverados ended last December.

Benji, you can still buy the old Ford F-150. It's the F-150 "Heritage". If anything GM took the play right out of their book. I always assumed it was so that guys who could care less what the truck looked like (work truck guys and fleets) could save some cash and go with something their maintenance people are familiar with.

>>>

Our Silverado was built in May of 2006, so my guess is that they built all of the Classics between mid-end 2006 before switching completely over to the 900 trucks and will release them throughout 2007 until the last one is sold. In other words, they aren't building the 800s and 900s together. All of the '07 800 Classics have already been built as of December. Technically, they are leftover '06s. I'm sure the same applied for the Malibu Classics, only difference being that the Malibu Classic could only be had in a mid-level trim with a 4-cylinder and sold primarily to fleets. You can get an 07 Silverado Classic LT w/ the Z71 package... for about $33k.

Benji, you can still buy the old Ford F-150. It's the F-150 "Heritage".>>>

Ford only offered the Heritage until the end of '04. After that, it was the new body style or nothing.

Wow... I could've sworn I saw a new one sitting on the lot when I looked at Fusions briefly about a year ago. Could have been sitting for awhile or I could have been mistaken.

You did good, ItsaHonda. And I think your Buick is a classic now, isn't it? Haven't they quit making the Park Avenue? I think I will send a copy of your OP to my son, maybe he'll get the hint and buy me a new truck>

2005 was the last year of the Park Avenue. Both it and the LeSabre were replaced by the Lucerne for 2006. The Lucerne is a pretty nice car (much better interior design, materials, fit and finish, refinement, etc.) but it lacks the overall character of the Park Ave. (IMO). The Lucerne does still have the 3800 V6 as it's std. engine. It's the gen III version, but I don't believe too much has changed other than it's a little quieter, smoother and a little more powerful. I'm Just about to turn 106,000 miles and she's still running like a champ. I drive the car about 100 miles four days out of the week. We'll be taking the Buick to California this July for the family vacation that we never got to take while growing up. Reservations have already been made at the Sequoia National Park. Dad has always wanted to see the Sequoia trees, so he'll finally get to see them for his 81st birthday. We'll be gone about 3-4 weeks as we plan to make plenty of stops along the way and visit the different sights along the way. We'll definitely be seeing the Grand Canyon.
