How can you avoid swirls and water spots on a black car?

As the title states, what is the best way to avoid water spots and swirl marks on a black car? I'm getting my car detailed over the weekend and want to make sure that I don't get water spots or swirls again after the detailing has taken them out.

I had gotten the paint protection package done at the dealership when I bought my car and thought that would help but it didn't. What is that paint protection stuff for if it doesn't protect again swirls and water spots? Is there something else I can get or apply to my paint to avoid this happening in the future?

Start with the most basic. There are more articles on that website to explore and learn from.

The crap the dealer took you for is no more than a sealant that you can buy for under $15.00.

^ I wonder why they use black applicator pads? From what I gather its full of silicone and black dyes. Kind of like black shoe polish for your car. Best to avoid that stuff.

There are so many products available that would put this to shame!

stay away from car washes. when you wash your car use the 2 bucket method and always start from the top down..

+1.. I don't doubt that black cars look sick after using these, but they must just be full of colored fillers.

If you polish a car correctly, not only will you get much better results but they will last for as long as you take care of it.

no, touchless is fine, but the ones with brushes are no good.

Touchless are not fine, as the chemicals they use will strip the wax, or sealant off your car!

When washing, use the two-bucket method. Never use towels (rags, applicators, mitts) that have touched the ground. Never use your towels on other cars. Always wash and dry your towels after each wash.

You will get some absurd advice (some of which is above) but if you click on the link I provided, you can learn......more searching means more knowledge. There is a lot of help out there providing you are willing to look for it. For me ( or anyone else) trying to tell you how to take care of your car would require HUNDREDS of pages. Educate yourself. Once you have a basic knowledge we can help you. RESEARCH MY FRIEND, RESEARCH is the answer. The Black GOO Turtle Wax garbage is hardly the answer, merely a temporary cover up. Seek and Ye shall find.........including MANY MANY threads right here on this site using the search function. If you really want to learn you can do so. If you want some miracle "wipe on & wipe off" product that will make everything brand new then you are in Disneyland.....WORK is required!
