5 Lug Set Up Question

hey guys, my boy is looking to get a 98 4dr EX Accord, but he wants to get the 5 Lugs setup on his car so he can put the 08 TSX rims on his car like mine or the 07 Accord rims, the question is, Is it easy do? will everything still work at the end? do the axle has to be change? can the brake master cylinder still work on this car? i ask all this cuz i had a Integra and i went and had the JDM ITR 5 lug setup done, so i had to change my axles, and had to go with a ITR brake master cylinder

is it worth the trouble to get the 5 lug setup done?

If he's looking for a V6, the 98 - 2002 Accord V6 models came with 5 lugs. The TSX wheels should fit them. On my 03 and 04 Accord, I used 5 lug steel wheels from a 98 LX V6 for my snow tires.

If he's looking for a 4cyl, the conversion is up to him. As a hobby/interest, anything is worth it if you're into it enough. Personally, I'd look for an OEM Honda 4 lug wheel or go aftermarket instead.

LaCuRa:

You neglect to mention whether your son's car is a four-cylinder or a V6 car.

In Gen Six, the I4 cars are four lug. The V6 cars are five lug.

Elsewhere within the Forum is a (.pdf) file providing precise information about various Honda wheel specifications.

Converting an I4 car four-lug setup over to a V6 car five-lug configuration will likely be rather difficult and very expensive.

we was looking for some nice OEM Honda 4lug rims but they all ugly, no disrespect to who ever likes them, just saying my opinion, but as for the 5 lug he has alot of options, he can put the 03-04 TL Type S rims, the 04+ TL OEM rims or A-Spec rims or Type S rims, or the TSX rims, or the SI rims or newer Accord rims, etc ya get the point, he would put on aftermarket rims but his wife will be driving the car and she doesn't not dodge potholes or curbs, he been thru 4 sets of rims this year alone on his present car

it's a 4cyl, the dealer said he will do the 5lug comversion for him if he pays the full asking price, $4000, its 99 Accord LX, the cluster reads 110k but I personaly did a carfax on the car and the last time the car was register the odometer read 173k, once I saw that and showed the dealer he comes out saying that the cluster was bad so they changed it, so we just left while he was telling us his bogus excuse, so we are looking around once again

Dealers are the worst. As opposed to a private seller trying to scam you, a dealer scams people every day for a living. Good luck, and I hope your "boy" finds a nice ride!

For further reference here is the 5 lug swap if he finds another 4 cylinder. If he finds an EX there are some parts you can omit.

i was considering doing the same thing. i was reading that same link before & it doesnt seem like it would be too hard to do as long as you can find the right parts for a good price.

not to hijack the thread, but if swapping out to do a 5 lug conversion....anyone know if it will change suspension parts? like i purchased a coilover kit for my LX 4 cylinder. but if i did want to go to a 5 lug conversion, will it work with the coilover kit for the 4 cylinder?

WHY convert a four-lug configuration to a five-lug configuration?

There are PLENTY of OEM and aftermarket four-lug rims to pick and choose from.

Otherwise, it's a Helluva lot easier and CHEAPER to buy a decent V6 car...as long as you don't mind the AT issues.

yes there is plenty of aftermarket 4 lug rims out there, but my boy does not want any Aftermarket rims, not because he cant afford them but just because its a waste of $, every year he has to buy a new set of rim, for those who live in NY especially Brooklyn you might know what i mean, as much as you try to dodge a pothole eventually you will hit one

as for 4lug OEM rims no disrespect to who ever like the OEM rims the Accord brings but they are ugly, i just think that there is more 5 lug rims out there that looks better then the 4 lug

well, personally, i was thinking about doing the conversion for 2 reasons. one just like lacura states pertaining to more options of stock wheels with the 5 lug. and 2 to do the rear disc brakes too.
from everything i have been reading here and a couple other sites, it doesnt look that hard to do. im headed to the junkyard tomorrow and will hopefully find all the components needed. and part of the reason i went with a 4 cylinder is b/c i didnt want to deal with the trans issues. if i could have found a low priced 6 cylinder & honda didnt have the trans problems, i definitely would have considered. transmissions are the only thing my shop doesnt do. everything else is cake.

i agree with that. i definitely like the 5 lug stock wheels better than the 4 lug stock wheels. aftermarket there are so many different options it wouldnt matter. but comparing stock for stock, 5 lugs have more options that also look better IMO.

i agree with you 100% me and my boy seen 2 Accord V6 4dr, one was a 98 and the other was a 99, the 98 had 147k, but looked cleaned motor was quiet but tranny shifted hard going into 2nd gear, the 99 was black needed paint on the driverside 2 doors, minor but once we was going to take the car out for a test drive the owner told us that the tranny was slipping, we just got out the car didnt want to waste our time or his, its hard to find a V6 that has no tranny problem i didnt know it was that bad
