Honda coolant same as Acura coolant?

Hello all,
Need to change the coolant in my 2002 Accord V6. Went to my dealer to get some. They were out. The parts guy said that I could go down to the Acura dealer and get some. He said Acuras use the same coolant. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks, RTV55

I would believe it is just namely because Acura/Honda is closely similar in a lot of the parts. >>

Yup, yup, yup. SAME stuff, just different labels.

A little bit more $$$ but Honda coolant isn't exactly cheap either considering it's a 50/50 blend. You're only buying a half gallon of anti-freeze. What a country! RTV55

In the case of MY dealer, actually NO. They sell the two "brands" off of the same shelf, in my parts department...at the SAME price.

I've got four (4) gallons of Type II (blue) coolant. Two jugs have "Acura" labels, the other two have "Honda" labels. SAME contents, different LABELS. I will stake my very life on it.

Once saw a customer come in, requesting "Acura" coolant. Parts person handed him a jug of "Honda" coolant. Customer refused, stating "This is the WRONG coolant for my car." Parts person went to the back, returned with a blank jug, slapped on the "Acura" labels, then asked "You happy NOW?"

They pre-mix it for excellent reasons. Prevents IDIOTS from combining it with ordinary tap water...which contains minerals/other elements...that are highly-corrosive to cooling system components. Also ensures that it is done in the proper ratio, so as to provide maximum (freezing-boiling) protection. Thus, Honda Type II (Blue) is basically "Stupid-proof!"

Drag out your Chemistry and Physics texts. There IS a valid, scientific reason WHY a "50/50" blend is the "ideal" ratio for coolant.

Robert,
I wasn't criticizing a "50-50" blend as far as the chemistry goes. Just complaining about the price while only getting a half gallon of the anti-freeze. I just bought a gallon of Chrysler undiluted antifreeze and had to mix it 50-50 with distilled water. It was $23.95 for the gallon but it makes 2 gallons so I can live with that. I'm an idiot sometimes though. RTV55

A friend, employed in my local Honda dealer's Parts Dept., owns a 2007 Chevy C-series pickup, with SB V8. He replaced the Godforsaken GM "Dex-Cool" with Honda Type II (Blue). It is a "50-50" blend of coolant and distilled water. I suggest you stop wasting so much money...and do as he did. You'll likely need about two (2) gallons, @ $10.95 per gallon.
