I was looking at one of these buy decided against it. It's not hard to lift the car and drain through the pan. Sure it saves on the mess but I'm not sure how effective it would be at sucking out any particles that are settled in your pan. Using the drain bolt I feel as if anything sitting down there will just flow out, but I could be wrong.

I guess the question is going to be how does anyone know if the dipstick tube allows the pick-up tube from this device to extend all the way down to the bottom of the crankcase of *their* car?

You won't be able to drain, or rather pull, all the old oil out of the crankcase otherwise.

And how does it "save you money" or to ensure that you "know the job is done right"?

It's more like you are making them money by buying it.

I like the concept, but seems there's more marketing hype than the actual value.

I highly doubt it. Oil can drain for hours haha; they wouldn't profit as much if they did wait for the last drop. I often don't even wait that long because it just takes too damn long and I need to get going

Aparently all of the mercedes techs use these, or devices similar to these. My stepdad had an 03 slk32 AMG, and he spent forever trying to change his oil before he found that out.

He did until he sold the Mercedes.

I've just stuck with the good old fashioned method. It is probably all in my head, but it's nice to know that I'm getting as much oil out as I can.

It looks like it just connects to the dipstick tube and has nothing actually going to the pan. I know for a fact not all dipstick tubes go to the bottom of the oil pan. How would this get all of the oil out? Maybe this is the way Mercedes does it because the engines were designed to have the oil changed this way.

This item is kind of useless for our accord's oil change (debris should sink to the bottom and we should take the advantage of the drain plug)...
but if we can somehow insert the tube into the torque coverter, then i would buy it...!
