There's one of these gens by my gf's house at a mom & pop dealership, it's been sitting there for months..I wish I had some extra dough, I'd go pick it up just for a toy. It's a silver Hatchback, Idk if it's 5 speed or not, but it has alloy wheels on it too.

Hopefully that old, you're getting ot for a song, even a Honda. When I traded in my Civic, the dealership sold it for less than $5K, and it was a loaded '96 EX.

I can't speak for the Honda gearboxes that far back, but the two Honda manuals that I have had (the '96 Civic 5-speed and my current 07 Accord 6-speed) were both very sweet gearboxes. The kind of boxes that will go even if you screw up and go in second gear (they won't like it, but they'll go). To me, you need an easy gearbox when you're trying to learn stick, it goes a long way in helping you to get your confidence up while you try to master your coordination.

Once driving stick becomes second nature to you, though, you'll want every car you own to have a manual. They're just so much more fun to drive.

True....I regret not getting the 6speed, but at the time I was getting piss poor mpg in my truck and gas was $4/gal, 5AT offered greatest mpg and traffic sucks here and becomes a pain with a stick. But I do miss it, I want one again..maybe in a year or two when my funds situation is more tolerable to that expense, I'm struggling enough.

Ace41:

The Gen Two Accords certainly have their downside: Modest power/torque, rear quarter/wheel arch rust, and the (Godforsaken) Keihin A/C compressors. And compared with my Gen Three, I am not fond of its "blocky" bodystyle.

The above said...

Overall, Gen Two is rugged, reliable, and a pleasure to drive!

Given reasonable care, they run virtually forever. And many parts are still available from your Honda dealer.

IF you are very lucky, you can find one of the ultra-rare 1985 "SE-i" cars. It has the (predecessor) A18 FI engine, fancy interior, and unique alloy rims. I think I have seen perhaps five (5), in my life, since 1985.

The older I get, the more I LOVE the older Gen Accords!

Ace41, had a 1985 Accord automatic I4, LOVED that car, it flew up to Los Angeles from Orange county daily (138 mile round trip). It flowed with traffic, was comfortable, dependable, easy to maintain, and bottom line is I WISH I had never sold it. I am willing to bet you will love a manual transmission. Regards

Richard

Richard, IMO, the OLD Accords embody the purpose and personality of the original concept of the car: Nimble, reliable, efficient, and just plain FUN to drive. I regret that you parted with your '85. As well, you make me PROUD that I've kept my trusty '86...some 16 (sixteen) years.

I loved the look of the 3rd gen Accord hatchbacks. Very sporty.

If and when I get rid of the Prelude, if I find a well maintained, good condition Accord hatch of that generation that isn't rusty, have a billion miles, and is a manual trans I would consider picking it up.

Fastball:

Next Spring, after performing other repairs, reluctantly and regrettably, I MAY put my trusty '86 up for sale, on Ebay. I said MAYBE.

Terms and Conditions of any possible sale transaction:

1) It must go to a GREAT home. (Die-hard Gen Three FREAK.)
2) It must go at MY price. (If you want "cheap," shop at Wal*Mart.)
3) I NEVER want to see the car, afterwards. (If I saw it again, in poor condition, I'd be sicker than I already am. If in better condition, I'd want it back.)

Terms and conditions are NON-negotiable. STARTING price will be (at least) $20,000, cash. NO reserve bids. Tire kickers and those playing games? GET LOST. Head off to a "ToysRUS" store to buy yourself a Nintendo, GameBoy, or X-Box. Else a new iPOD.

NO sale? NO problem! My cemetary plot is big enough to have me BURIED inside it. I can't imagine a better coffin!

Ace41, $200 for an 85, with only 101K miles, which has new clutch, battery and driven to church on Sunday by a kind hearted old lady. LET us know how it goes for you? Do you have any plans for it? MODS? Regards

Richard
