..at any rate, hope you can solve this without copious hassle.........the car is too good to suffer a fool (or inept tech).....

best, ez.............

Sure, now you say it, how long did you wait, uh I mean procrastinated, before you finally changed it?

Yes, GM friciton modified synchromesh fluid is one of those magical chemicals that just work in the Hnda 3rd gear pop-out problem, and works very well.

I've had the fluid in my car now for 1.5 years now, not a SINGLE 3rd gear pop-out in all that time, where I used to have 1 or 2 occurences every week.

I thought about getting this TSB done before the 5 year power-train warranty is up Jan 2011, but I am hesitant to do so the more I read about these failed attempts, I would soon prefer my engine and transmission stay OEM factory intact and not messed with unless it is absolutely necessary to open them up to change a failed or worn component.

Avio, during my time at sea, I picked up an expression - more of a lifestyle actually - that has served me well.

"Act in haste - repent at leisure"...........

So I laid in the weeds and researched, asked questions (remember?) and when I was pretty sure the goo was going to work, I paid this really great independent shop to replace the OEM stuff with GMSFM.

That was about 8, 000 miles back. Not one sign of the reluctance formerly noted every now and then enroute to 3rd gear.

Great stuff, cu.........ez sends.

Or as my father says: "Haste makes waste".

It's all good, EZ.

Update: I'm noticing the clunkiness/grinding is much much more pronounced in the morning - especially here in Toronto, where it's close to 0 degrees celsius in the mornings. Ditto with 5pm - after the car's been sitting out in the cold all day, it always seems clunkier/grindier when I shift from 2nd to 3rd.

Does that sound like a familiar symptom to anyone? Does it give a clue to what might be happening? I do notice that after about 10-15 minutes, after things have had a chance to warm up, the issue kind of goes away.

I took the car to another dealership where my friend has people he trusts, and they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it either. However, this was at 6pm, after I drove it 40 minutes through traffic from the office. At this point, I'm tempted to do 2 things:

1) leave the car with them overnight, outdoors, and have them test drive it in the morning
2) take a video of myself shifting in the morning so they can see/hear the clunkiness (wish they could feel it too). I could even post that video here.

Before I got my TSB done it would mostly pop out in t he morning when it was cold. I feel for you bro. When I took my car to get it tested I doubt the guy saw it slip but we bought 2 cars from them so he said ok.

Got mine done at Honda of Serramonte in the Bay Area last week. Took all day, dropped of at 7:30 am picked up at 6:00 pm. Prior to the TSB, I was always conscious about shifting into 3rd. I would say 60-70% of the time it would pop out or need excessive force to get in. After the TSB I’ve had no issues and feel 100% confident that the 3rd gear will engage. It is still a little notchy, not like 3-4 which is smooth as silk, but it is so much better than it was before that I am extremely happy I got it done. Alex at Serramonte was really cool about everything and didn’t hassle me on the issue. He had his tech take it for a ride who confirmed the issue. They ordered the parts and then I took my car in once all the parts were delivered. My car only had 33k miles on it when I got it done so I feel good knowing that I can enjoy driving it for the rest of the time I have it. I will probably try the FM Syncromesh to see if it improves the notchy feel.

BEST TSB FIX EVER...My tranny is now smooth and silky with no nochiness or pop outs. Transformed the car. It is a major job and if the GM fluid works--that's fine too. I do remember the complaints about Honda not issuing a TSB for the 6 speed....then they issue the TSB and some won't do it. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
