Nevermind, disconnected the battery and found the code in the glove box. Good to go.

Keeping the code in the glove box defeats the purpose of having the anti-theft stereo.

Yeah I thought the same thing when I realized that Honda has a section in the service records book (which is usually kept in the glovebox)...there is a blank for the radio code and that's where I found mine...

I'm thinking...how anti-theft is that?

I just want to say how helpful this thread was. Had to change my headlight bulb out, and pulled the batt as opposed to going through the wheel well. Knew I would need the code. But apparently, my Honda was one that had to have the head unit swapped and the code on the card didn't work. Did the hold 1 and 6 thing, got my serial number(which was different from the one on the anti-theft card), called the 1-800 #, and voila. They gave me my code.

See, it's moments like this that I love the internet!

If you carefully instruct me how to perform the 1 and 6 hold and provide the full 1-800 number, I'll print your answer, stick it in my OM and place your picture on the piano. (Plus I'll be big time in your debt forever). One can't be too careful about these things.

Thanks, ez....

The codes were given on a card when you bought the vehicle, assuming you bought it new.

Since the Navi code works, now you need the RADIO code. Open the lower pocket door half-way and you can see the bottom of the stereo to obtain the SERIAL number (not the part number). Once you have the serial number for the radio, you should be able to get the 4-digit code from the dealer or website. To enter the code, turn on the radio, then turn the tuning knob and push it for each correct number. The single digits appear on the upper display. After the 4th digit is entered, the radio will turn on. If you were given a 5 digit code, they gave you a code for a Non-Navigation Stereo.

Interesting. I should be able to straighten this out at the dealer, but my problem is a little different.

I had to replace my battery recently. Since I bought the car used, I did not have any card with the numbers on it.

I found the serial number of the Navi unit printed on the DVD drive in the trunk.

Using the display of the radio unit, I was able to obtain the 8-digit serial number for the radio.

Armed with this information, my VIN and verification that it's my car (my phone number and address), I was able to get a code for the Navi and a code for the radio from the American Honda web site.

The navi code worked. The radio code is wrong - it's 5 digits, to start with. I don't quite understand how it can be the wrong serial number, since I got it from the radio unit itself, not any number/sticker anywhere. I did go through the retrieval process again, to make sure that I had written down and entered the correct radio serial number.

Strange, eh?

Did you look into the gove-compartment door to see if there is a sticker either on the inside face of the door (where my radio code was), or on the inside wall of the compartment?

Avi, if you're talking to me, I had done that before, hoping to forestall this kind of problem. Nothing there.

But as I said, that doesn't make any difference. The serial number I have is from the radio itself; whereas a sticker may not match the unit in the car, the unit in the perforce does. And putting that in to the tool Honda provides to obtain the codes returns a five-digit code for the radio. Which can't be right - it will only accept four numbers.

The only thing I can think of is if I wrote the two sets of numbers down in the wrong order. I've already checked that they are the right numbers, but perhaps I have the second four first, and the first four second.

Unfortunately, the radio is not inclined to give me another chance. I may try disconnecting the battery again in order to get a fresh set of attempts. Otherwise, I'll have to make a stop at the dealer.

Open the cubby door half way and look at the bottom of the radio and double-check the serial number. The serial number for my Navi head unit is 11 digits, not 8 digits. You might be retrieving the XM radio ID number on the display, not the head unit serial number.

.........'stones, should you ever venture out this way, I owe you a drink(or two)

1/2 opening the cubby door revealed the number (actually there were two: one had a faint line thru it).

Entered the good (I reckon) number and got a prompt: "The VIN number you entered is locked"..........."Call Customer Service 1-800-999-1009............"

Well, it's a start. Thanks again.

best, ez....

The VIN is locked? How strange. Good luck! Thanks for the drink offer.

I found that if your radio is currently operating you can't view the serial number on the screen. Here's Honda's directions for getting the SN:

Retrieve Serial Number from Device Display
2003 - 2007 Accord with Navigation System

All Other Models
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads COdE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
Turn OFF the device.
Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.
The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)
And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example.)
Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits
