Hi,
I have a '98 Accord EX-V6 with 181,000 miles, and I'm due for another coolant change, and I'm doing it this time to save some $$. I have heard literally 100 different ways of using cleaners/flushes/coolants to use. Which flush/cleaner do I use?? I heard prestone cleaner (NOT the flush) is really good stuff. I have honda green coolant and want to switch to type II blue?? I heard no matter if I'm switching coolants to also replace my thermostat at this time?? Which temp. should I get?? How do I reverse back flush my system?? and is my coolant overflow bottle pressureized or non-pressurized??? Does it matter?? I tried washing it out w/ soap and water, but there's still a grey ring around the bottom..should I just buy a new one?? HELP!!! I am totally 100% confused!!!!...I purchased the vehicle in the summer of 1998 with 16 miles on it. I'm just trying to save a couple bucks!!! PLEASE HELP!!!! Signed, A guy who thought he knew what he was doing... |

As for the brand, I recommend you use Honda Type II coolant and HONDA thermostat.
Also wouldn't hurt if you spend extra $$ for a Haynes repair manual that will help you out a lot. |

Yees, I have a Haynes manual, however I don't agree with the garden hose flush. The flushing link is money thnx.
Does anyone have experience with the Prestone Cleaner or Prestone Flush?

If your car has used nothing but Honda coolant since new there's no need to flush.
A complete drain and fill is more than adequate. I've not seen any buildup of anything in Honda cars that have used Honda's long life coolant. Don't add any cleaner or flush chemicals to the engine. They are NOT something you want to add to any aluminum engine, unless absolutely necessary.

Ok; Minimum triple drain and refill, with tap H20 (heater on high and full blower).
Then a couple drain and refills until only blue Honda Type 2. And a Honda thermo. Gotcha. Thanks all!
