Need New Multiplex

Yesterday's weather brought us a little rain and I noticed that my wind shield wipers were acting up. They wouldn't turn off as I moved the control to the off position. It took about 10 or 15 wipes before the wipers stopped and they stopped at random location on my wind shield - most of the time in my field of view.

Took the car to Honda today just before 12pm. They have been working on it all day to try and "diagnose" the problem. It's 4:45pm and they still have not finished. They have guessed that the multiplex is bad and needs to be replaced but they're not 100% sure.

Question is, should I really be responsible for this repair even though my warranty has expired (at least that is what they told me - 36k miles)?

I think this is an example of bad Honda engineering and they should cover it. Its not like I did anything to damage the wipers. I could understand if I took it through a car wash and they were damaged that way...anything that would be a result of my negligence. In this case, this is on Honda in my opinion. Am I wrong for thinking this?

What would be the best way to approach the situation when the dealership calls?
