2005-10 Accord 4-cylinder transmission recall

This came across the wire a little earlier an I thought I'd share.

http://content.usatoday.com/communit...ion-software/1

Quote:
Honda will recall about 1.5 million vehicles in the U.S. and nearly another million worldwide to for a problem with software in the transmission control module that could damage the automatic transmission.

Being recalled in the U.S. for the software update, says American Honda:

2005-10 Accord 4-cylinder
2007-10 CR-V
2005-08 Element
Honda says that without the updated software, "the automatic transmission secondary shaft bearing in the affected vehicles can be damaged if the transmission is quickly shifted between each of the reverse, neutral and drive positions, as may be done in an attempt to dislodge a vehicle stuck in mud or snow.

"If the bearing is damaged in this unusual scenario, it can cause the engine to stall or lead to difficulty engaging the parking gear."

The company says it has no reports of injuries or deaths related to this condition.

Notification to owners customers will begin on Aug. 31. The company says that after Aug. 31, owners also can check if their vehicles need the update online at www.recalls.honda.com or by phone at (800) 999-1009, option 4.
