I remember someone at one time replaced their volume know on the radio with a chromish one from a TL I think??
My know is all goofed up from the previous owner (scratched bad)
How does the know come off and what application fit?
I have an 06 EX no navi.
Thanks in advance!

I think you are referring to a post where a member changed his knob from the 06-07 painted one to the 03-05 chrome one. The TL has no interchangeable radio knobs.

Go to any Honda parts site, like hondapartsdeals.com and enter your vehicle information. Under Electrical, you will find the category for the radio, The knobs are available as replacement parts. They just pull off.

I talked to 6 dealerships in a major city and they all said that you had to remove the head unit. Then I called a small town Honda dealer who says he was just working on a head unit. They just pop off he says.

Here is how to do it:

Use both hands and put your nails under either side of the "clear" part of the volume knob. Pull FIRMLY, and slowly (but pretty hard!). It will pop right off.

The 06 and 07 versions have crappy grey paint that wears off FAST. I bought the 05 ex version (black with chrome plate). They are all the same connector from 03-07. The black chrome plated looks and WEARS the best. 05 was the last year they did chrome.

When you push it on, LINE up EVERYTHING! It's important! Push firmly until it snaps on!

My wife's is an 07. All the Accord 07's have black dashes so I need the knob to be black with just chrome.
I used this 05 part #Honda Part 39103-SDA-A11ZA
Genuine Honda KNOB ASSY., VOLUME DIAL *TCHROME* (CHROMIUM PLATING)

It's for a 2005 EX accord but it fit my 2007 SE accord AWESOME.

bernardi honda walked me through it! Props to them!

Thank you for the information posted.

My new to me 06-V6-6MT has the same painted volume knob that looks really worn out.

For $11 I am getting the same 05 chrome knob....

Curious... what other interior parts on the 03-05 were better than the 06-07?

Be aware that there are two different knobs for these radios. It appears the LX and below models use an Alpine unit for the radio/hvac and the LX V6 models and above use a Stanley. There are two different part #'s. I know first hand that a volume knob for an 06 EX did not fit on my 06 LX. If you want the chrome knob for your 06-07 it's best to make sure what type of radio you have and order the corresponding 03-05 knob. Bernardi has the parts diagram under "electrical" and calls the radio/hvac "center module".

Yeah,
Sorry,
There is a stanley and an alpine stereo head. When you look up the part make sure your car uses a stanley or an Alpine. You can still get the chrome look from a '03-05 models but match up if it's a stanley or alpine unit.

The parts locators from each site will show you. I think my 07 accord SE used the EX stereo...so it was the same from 03- 07 in the EX side (and SE when they made SE's).
somewhere like the site below give the EXact schematic of the assembly.
http://parts.sonshonda.com
Just fill in the year and model you have. Write down if it's a stanley or an alpine.

Then try using the 03-05 model option and find a model that fits YOUR stanley or Apline unit (there are only the two stereo option:alpine or Stanley).

IN my experience EVERYTHING is cheaper. They removed the 6 Cd changer as an SE option. The interior seats are MUCH cheaper now compared to earlier models. They try to cut little things they hope you won't notice. Not really Honda or Toyota's fault. Both companies said that it's getting hard to make a profit in the USA because the ameican dollar is at a 30 year low against the yen.

Our money is worthless to them.

Does anyone know of a good Honda parts website that won't charge $11 in shipping for an $11 part? That is absolutely absurd. I emailed Bernardi about it, but they haven't replied yet. Oh well.

Jeff,
Make sure you have a stanley or alpine system first. Then go to your local honda dealer with that part #.

I have an 07 accord se that uses the same dial as an 05 accord ex (Stanley).

Local dealers don't charge shipping but will charge a few bucks more for the part.

I guess I could do that. I go to UCF, so I don't really have the time to go to Honda, and the closest one to campus in Orlando is like 30+ minutes away. I might as well just bite the bullet though.

I did indeed make sure what kind of head unit I have, and it's the Stanley one.

However, I would like to know what the difference between these two volume knobs:

http://www.bernardiparts.com/product...SDA-A11ZB.aspx
Edit: I think I found out that the black metallic knob is from the 06-07 Accord Hybrid, while the chromium plating knob is from the 03-05 Accord EX.
Edit2: I found a couple pictures after doing a bunch of searching on Autotrader, however there doesn't seem to be a difference between the two, other than the fact that the black metallic one was made in Japan, while the chromium plating one was made in USA. Both head units are Stanley's, however.

Chromium Plating:

Edit3: Has anyone thought about taking the volume knob off and painting it flat black? I'm just unsure if the paint would hold well, because it would be hard to sand the knob down to help the paint stick.

The Black Metallic doesn't have the chrome ring I believe.

ALSO, if you look at 2003 version--the knob would match the color of the plastic interior: Gray-blue, Tan or dark gray or black.

Honda started using solid black (sometimes black metalic --but looks black) on the whole dash in later models with only the chrome ring. In 06 they dropped the chrome and painted a gray ring.

I have an 07se so I have a completely black dash.

I don't think the one you marked as black metallic should have a chrome ring. Mine just originally had a painted grey ring on a black knob.
Now, I have a black knob with chrome ring.

Alpine v Stanley

One note:
Alpine units use a "knob" or "old" fashion looking "knob".

Stanley Units use a volume "ring" about a power button (it goes around the power button like they are one but they are not). You will only remove the spinning Volume ring NOT the on/off power button! which is part of the head assembly. Most honda's I have seen use the volume 'ring.' Only the really high-end 'Ex-L's sometimes or any with the navigation/GPS system in the radio dash or oddly, the really low end base model accords seem to use the Alpine old "knob" style.

The link below give alot of schematics. Look at your old knob for type as well. Also look at your old knob base color for reference.
