I hit the rev limiter in second gear, Did i damage my tranny?

So i was waiting at a gas stations exit, and "supposedly" put my car in D3, yet little did i know it was in 2nd gear, so as i exit gas station onto the highway with my foot to the floor, i hit the rev limiter 3-5 times before i shat myself and shifted to D3 :|.

Please tell me that it did Nothing at all and im just being a pussy ":c

Don't make a habit of it but you're fine that's what the limiter is for so when goofballs do that it doesn't overrev haha (no offence intended). You would know immediately if something went wrong for the most part.

you cant go past the redline in an automatic (meaning you can't over-rev your engine)

its computer controlled if ur going one hundred miles an hour and put it from D to D1, it will not shift into first gear. each gear is computer controlled its gonna shift from 5th to 4th to 3rd to 2nd then to first, but in a high rpm range

As already mentioned, I wouldn't make it a habit, but that's why the limiter is there. It provides some level of protection.

The point of a rev limiter is to protection the engine.

Really. I'm not going to try it on my car.

I recall I once went from 60 mph and drop it from D to D1 and it did drop it to 1st. I think that was like a 95 or 94 Accord. This was in 1996.

You sound like a pretty bad driver heh .. putting it in neutral while driving hitting rev limiter and now this? Shame shame! Sounds like you need a bicycle.

nope does not work. the accord is electronically controlled with the gears, you be going as fast as you can and throw it into first and it wont shift until you slow down to a certain point then it will downshift

A. You asked if the bouncing off the rev limiter hurt your transmission. The answer is no because it was never in gear- no stress.

B. As everyone already stated, the rev limiter is set at a point well within the engine’s threshold for safety. 6,800 rpm is nothing for these engines.

C. I wish I could reference my source, but I distinctly remember reading that rev limiters are less for protecting the engine and more for protecting the engine’s spinning accessories, like the alternator and water pump. They have limits too, often lower than the engine’s actual limits.
