Exclamation Recall Thread: Honda and Acura Recalls

Honda Fit Recall

Quote:
TOKYO (Reuters) – Honda Motor Co (7267.T) said on Friday it would recall a total 646,000 units of the Fit/Jazz and City models globally, including 140,000 in the United States.

The recall covers the models sold in North America, South America, Europe, South Africa and Asia, but not Japan, a spokeswoman said.

The Fit is Honda's best-selling model in Japan.

Honda said the recall was to fix a defective master switch, which could cause water to enter the power window switch and in some cases cause a fire.

There were three reported cases of fires due to the defect, two in the United States and one in South Africa, the spokeswoman said.

Hmm...Toyota cars are junk with their recalls....right......

Point is everyone has issues when something is defective. Even Honda.

BUT...with only 3 issues reported, it is a far cry from the way Toyota is handling their defects.
It took 22 deaths and a few headline news stories + the government mandated recall to get action.

2002-2004 Honda CR-V, 2003 Pilot recalled for headlight switch failure

Statement by American Honda Regarding Low Beam Headlight Recall: 2002-2004 Honda CR-V and 2003 Pilot

(03/30/2012 - TORRANCE, Calif.) -- Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 554,000 model-year 2002-2004 CR-V and model-year 2003 Pilot vehicles in the United States to inspect and replace components of the headlight wiring system. There is a potential failure with the wiring of the headlight switch which may cause the low beam headlights to become inoperative. The loss of the low beam headlights may increase the risk of a crash. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue.

Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in late-April 2012. In addition to contacting customers by mail, in late-April, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.recalls.honda.com or by calling (800) 999-1009, and selecting option 4

Honda recalling 204k CR-V, Odyssey, Acura RDX models over rollaway risk

Quote:
Report Receipt Date: APR 15, 2013
NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V143000
Component(s): POWER TRAIN
Potential Number of Units Affected: 204,169

VEHICLE MAKE / MODEL YEARS
  • ACURA RDX 2013
  • HONDA CR-V 2012-2013
  • HONDA ODYSSEY 2012-2013

Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

SUMMARY

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 CR-V, Odyssey, and model year 2013 Acura RDX vehicles. During sub-freezing temperatures, the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism may become slow and allow the gear selector to be moved from the Park position without pressing the brake pedal. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

CONSEQUENCE

If the gear selector is moved from the park position without pressing the brake pedal it can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

REMEDY

Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated brake shift interlock blocking mechanism free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 13, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's campaign recall numbers are S96, S97, and S98.

NOTES

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
