hi:) a quick question about washing your accord!
hi everyone
my name is karen aand i actually just picked up my new baby today! i now drive a 2012 black accord coupe EX-L (no v6 haha)anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and also, a really quick question on detailing. my dealer told me that my car has a .. metallic? coating on the paint and it doesn't really need to be washed. he said to kind of wipe it down with one of those long microfiber stringy things and then use some water afterwards. apparently if i go through a car wash or wash it myself or something the metallic coating will chip and my paint might be ruined? what do you guys do to detail/clean your car and whats the truth behind whatever it was that my dealer told me? im a total noob so i know nothing. sorry if this question has been answered or is totally obvi. thanks guys )

He's an idiot - see the detailing section here. You wash your car like any other. Google the "two bucket method". Go to your local auto parts store and buy a microfiber mitt - some meguires gold class soap amd an absorber towel. Wax every 6 months with what you want - lots of good ways in the detail forum...
a great way to keep a black car perfect for years: http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=70172

Congrats on your new ride!
First remember that the dealer is an idiot. Your car has a clear-coat protecting the metallic paint. Best thing you can do is get it waxed. Then wash by hand with sponge/mit and bucket. The duster is OK to remove dust off of a clean car.

Hello and welcome to DA ! .. Hahaha im glad that salesman works behind a desk and eats doughnuts rather than detailing cars. Id like to see what his car looks like if he uses this method.
Thats one of the most redic things i have heard in a while! Enjoy your new ride and keep it clean!

Welcome! And like Glen said, you can wash it normally. Follow his advice, he's our detailing expert!

Did you pay for some sort of dealer paint protection? If so, maybe that's why the salesperson told you it doesn't really need to be washed.
Regardless of whether it has the dealers "special" paint protection or not, you still want to wash and apply a wax/sealant regularly. |

Using a sponge to wash the car is very bad practice as a rule. It holds the dirt at the surface and rubs it across your paint. The exception is a grout sponge at stores like home depot but a mitt made for car washing is the best choice. Do NOT use any dishwashing soap, use car wash soap.
You might want to look at a product I wrote about here in 2005. It has become a sticky and many many here use it. You can buy it direct from the manufacturer or from Throwdown Performance who is one of this forums sponsors. It cleans, shines, and protects all in one shot. http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3705 Here is the product website..... Watch the short video at the bottom of the opening page first then look through the site.....it's very well written. In the picture gallery you will see (among others) the hood of my Redondo Red Pearl Accord after wiping this product on and off, that's all that was done. http://www.wetpaintglaze.com/ Here's a pic of my current car, a RAV4. The paint is called Blizzard White Pearl and Wet Paint was used on it. Even using a camera phone you can see how the pearl jumps out at you. This car is four years old.
