7th or 8th Gen Civic or a Fit?

My wife wrecked her 1st Gen Insight a couple of months ago in a MVC. She is OK but the car was totaled and long gone. She keeps wanting to get a 2nd Gen Insight to replace it but I have heard (and read) only bad things about them. I am trying to get her to look at the Civic or Fit as better alternatives, especially since the 2nd Gen Insight is based on the Fit. Anybody else have any experience with either of these two models? I just have never liked the Insight-and this goes for both the "old" and the "new" versions.

I have no ownership experience with either the Civic or Fit. Personally, I would pick the Civic because I can't stand the way the Fit looks. It looks all distorted and out of proportion because none of the lines flow well at all, but a review on MT said it was fun to drive for an econocar.

And (the Fit) is on Car and Driver's "10 Best Cars under 80K " list! They gave it a very good review. Consumer Reports recommends it also in the Small Car category.

My friend has a fit and I was really surprised in the amount of room that thing has. Lots of options when folding the bottom of the rear seats up, etc. Have her drive both and see what she says.

Civic all the way. I had one before my accord and I loved it. Got great gas mileage and if you get an Si you'll have a nice peppy little rev happy monster!

If you are considering Fit then you might as well look at Crz, also a great car.

You can also evaluate prius c, if you are looking at Insight.

We are going to buy a 2009 Civic LX! I wish it was an Si but my wife is too old for those, and she doesn't like the fact the Si requires premium. She hates the Fit and thinks its ugly and overpriced. The car has been leased for the past couple of years and the seller and his wife have another car (Sabb) and want to sell this one as they both work from home and don't need the Civic. He is selling it for just the lease buyout amount and that is at least $2-2.5K less than the Trade-In value, much less the Private Party or Retail (dealer) sale price! I guess I will now have to join a Civic forum or two to learn all about Civics!
