Neons on dimming lights

I picked up some street glow neon lights at Ross today for a total of $12 for an assortment of 5 various length tubes. My car is 100% stock, except for window tint and a 4 channel under my seat. Point being, I'm not out to grab looks. I just want some more light inside at night and figured these would be an easy way to do it.

I think it would be nice to have them come on with the dome lights when I open doors/hit unlock on fob/remove key from ignition.

Question:

Is it safe/advisable to wire the transformer power leads to a dimming 12v source, such as the overhead dome lights in my 7th gen? Will the reduction in voltage fry the transformer like some fluorescent house lights?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

I ended up wiring it to the glovebox light so they come on with parking/head lights. Bulbs are mounted low in the foot well.

I might post pics if anyone is interested. Not bad for $7.

They're mounted under my front seats right at the front under where your knees would be. They're yellow and kind of distracting at night, so I think i'm going to move them to the rear of the front seats or take them out. They're tied into the glovebox light so they come on with parking/head lights.

I'll get pics later tonight

When I was 16 I did a similar thing for my car with the underglow. When I was 17 I realized how terrible of an idea it was. (They were green.)

Not trying to troll on ya man, haha, but yes, I would take them out if it were me. But at the end of the day it matters if you like it.

I've matured past that stage of doing it cause it's cool. I dumped $5k into my Wrangler and watched it all drive away one day when I got sick of it. I just wanted to see what some light would do down there and for like 12 bucks for the lights, I couldn't lose.

Here are the photos. I put the camera on long exposure, but it still doesn't capture the intensity.

They're a lot brighter than the camera makes them appear. The light shining on my feet really gets my attention and stresses my eyes when they're trying to adjust to looking out the front at the headlights.
I think I'll just move them to the rear of the front seat so they illuminate the back floor, with a hair of light spilling out the front.

Good idea but if you went with LED strips you could have just tapped into the dome lights (and be sure that they won't fry anything).
