Cooling fans won't turn on? 93 Accord

93 Accord, engine temp gets real hot in traffic, and fans don't come on.

I assume there's a hard to reach thermostat I gotta replace?

thanks!

Thumbs up

The thermostat may be bad. However if you run a wire from another power sourse you can test the fan first to make sure it still works. Then step 2 would be takeing out the the fan switch & stick it in boiling water to make sure that IT works. I'm a big fan of the K.I.S.S. method ( keep it simple stupid). Always test before you plug & unplug new parts, that way you know what you have & where to put your money.

Is it the switch on the thermostat housing?

Well actually both. There is a sensor that turns on the fan when it reachs a certain temp. You can find it by following the wires comeing off the fan. If that's good you can put the thermostat in boiling water & see how far/ if it opens. O ya you need to check the wires & fuse first.

The sensor turns on the fan. The thermostat allows the water to flow. If I had to geuss I would say your fuse, sensor or fan motor are bad.

I had a 93 Acura Vigor (shared some parts with the Accord) and had the exact same problem you described, years ago. Turned out to be a bad relay fan switch, so I'd suggest checking that out first.

CHECK THAT THE FANS WORK!!!!

I had this same exact problem. Run a wire from the battery to the fan plug. It should turn on with direct power, if not then replace your fans.
