Removing scratches by hand
I would never think about doing it, but since some people have an aversion to buying an orbital because they don't have the money, (yet have $1000 wheels, LOL) here's a good article from Mike at Autogeek on removing scratches by hand:

Some people have their priorities mixed-up. So glad I got my PC. All the elbow grease I could muster couldn't get rid of most scratches by polishing by hand.

I've personally always thought that swirl marks and scratches are there unless painted over. I know there are a ton of products out there that claim to "remove scratches" but think of it this way.
A scratch out of a car is TAKING paint away, it removed something. So how can a product "remove" a scratch? Wouldn't the only way to get rid of the scratch be replacing what was removed in the first place? just my 2 cents

We are talking about eliminating scratches and swirls here n the clear coat, not huge gashes caused by impact or keys...and you definitely can get rid of Surface stuff.....

Best thing I ever did was buy a Flex. I think once your car's paint is past new (and presumably well taken care of), you're only option is a machine at some point.
