ISimple ISHD571 install - now car won't start
I read and read and read this forum looking for the perfect device. Hillstones seemed like he knew what he was talking about, I liked how the Isimple product sounded for my 2007 EX-L.
Now here I am doing what seemed to be a pretty simple install and my car wont' start. Wont' turn over, won't turn the radio on, won't even give a hint of working. I turn the key and it the dash lights up and flickers and clicks a bunch of times. It sounds as if the electric grid has gone crazy. Isimple informed me that they've never heard of this and that it shouldn't affect the starting process. Pre-sinstall my car worked fine, post attempted install it won't start and is now going to get a tow to the shop (after a failed jump attempt did nothing). Any ideas? |

Did you disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before you started the install?

Dead battery, i would check voltage just to be sure, that way you don't have to tow it for nothing

I should have mentioned that I did get a buddy to come over and give me a jump, wouldn't even turn over though. I checked every fuse as well, nothing. I also disconnected the negative battery connection, was prompted to enter the anti-theft code, that worked fine, but still wouldn't start. Now I can't even get the radio to power on when I put the key in and have to watch all the lights on the dash flicker and make this rapid clicking noise. I guess it could be the battery but that doesn't explain why a jump had no effect...

then go ahead and give it a go. Something should work radio anything something has to work no way you could have blown every single fuse.

Did you disconnect the battery after the fact or did you do it BEFORE the install? You need to disconnect the battery during any install that involves electrical or tapping into "hot" wires. You definitely fried something, it might be a relay.

A ton of people did the install without disconnecting the battery. Obviously this might have been the problem (as I did not), but does disconnecting the "xm" plug and connecting the Isimple count as "tapping" into wires? In addition when I was done with the install the radio was working perfectly with the device. I didn't even notice until I put everything back together and then tried to start the car.

Not necessarily true. Its RECOMMENDED to do it (especially for those without the experience) but not absolutely needed. Yes, you run the risk of frying something but there are measures that can be taken. Is it recommended to do what I'm saying? No. I'm not recommending it or condoning it but that's just how I work.

You never know.
Have you checked the voltage at the battery and see if the battery is good? If the voltage at the battery is too low then this would happen also. |

Sometimes when batteries fail, the internal plates crack and fall into one another causing in internal short. If that happens, the battery will not take a charge and will actually cause such a drain that a jump won't work either.
Check the voltage with the headlights on to put a small load on the battery. No load voltage can be high enough to make the battery appear good. |
