I've never really noticed a terrible oil consumption issue in any of my previous cars (call me lucky), but in regards to this issue I have to also wonder if the engines were being properly broken-in. I've learned from advanced automotive classes that you're suppose to completely baby the vehicle's engine for the first 500 miles and be somewhat easy on it for the following 1500 miles. So get at least 2000 miles on it before you get aggressive with the throttle. The engine should be properly broken-in by the time the 2000 mile mark is met, so then a person can begin pushing it's limits without doing long-term damage. If people were hammering on their brand new cars, because they enjoyed the pep it had, well that might attribute to the oil consuming issue... not saying that this thought is fact for everyone's case, but it's certainly a possibility and especially for those who didn't know better.

You will be surprise by how much abuse some of the brand new car's go through by hands of drivers before it gets to dealership's. Idk about Honda's since they have their own people working for them because they don't want to be unionized. I doubt situation is any different. Car's get started in cold winter weather and are revved right away at very high rpm to warm it up fast so they can get some heat if not that some really go hard on throttle while driving it. Weird smell comes from exhaust because engine is yet to be properly broken into. Man I just feel bad I know they are not to be driven hard to begin with upon that they are parked outside in cold winter weather and then driven hard immediately. Not all the workers rev it or do other crazy stuff!

I'm not surprised by that at all. I've worked at 3 different dealerships in my past, so I'm certainly not surprised by what non-owners will do to the vehicle. Also, customers who do not have a dealer go with them on test drives will usually really put a car through its paces. However, as for revving the engine without a load put on it, basically revving while parked, that wouldn't harm a new engine nearly the same way a heavy foot while driving it would. One other thing to point out is that even though you'll tend to get some aggressive use on the engine in the early days of the vehicle sitting at a dealership's parking lot, the amount of miles in which they can accumulate isn't usually significant. It's also a reason I will tend to pay attention to the mileage of a new vehicle I want to purchase. If it's greater than 50 miles I'll prefer to select a different vehicle, as long as it's not a rare one for the dealership to have, but if that's the case the dealership will tend to have it in the showroom anyways, which will limit its use to the public.

I had the ECU flash about 13000 miles ago; it made no difference. Am I dead?
Doesn't the engine only take 4.5 quarts of oil? thats ridiculous... it's definitely a problem. My was only burning 1 quart per 4,000 and when I finally convinced them to take it apart they said my whole block was scorred up bad and replaced it... so I can only imagine what condition yours is in.

What could they possibly do? I'm at 160,000 miles in my '08 and the oil consumption gets worse and worse. I'm about close to what the last guy says...about 4 to 5 qts between oil changes. I keep up on it at least, but this is ridiculous. I actually overheard a conversation on my jobsite the other day about a machine drinking oil. My 2008 Honda Accord drinks more oil than a 20 year old piece of construction equipment and a 15 year old Ford panel van. More than my 1970 Monte Carlo with an even older small block chevy. If you do something worse than a 40+ year old SBC, you've really accomplished something.

I got this car because it was supposed to last forever. No one told me that the asterisk was going to be me checking the oil every time I drive the car. This must be what my grand-pop felt like.
