Talking Redrain's Ultimate Home Depot Special (Front Grille) *Lots of pics*

Been a while since i've done anything to the car worth noting so thought i'd write up a quick how-to on my grille mod i did this weekend.

I know that you can buy grills that look like this but I prefer the poor mans method since im in the "college student" shoes

Only parts needed for this Grille mod are

-Gutter guard $5
-Chrome stripping $20
-screwdriver
-Whiteout
-black spray paint $5
-primer (if you want a more durable paint job) $5
-Clear coat 5$

First off this is what she looked like before the new grille

So start off by taking off the grille, this is very simple so I won't go through the steps. Once you take off the grille, on the backside are 6 screws that once off, the chrome grille will slide off if you pull up.

Now get your gutter guard and cut a piece a bit longer than the length of the grille.

Tape it to the car and use the whiteout to mark around the outline of the grille and the Honda emblem.

Since the grille was light black I needed to paint it black so it would not be seen as much through the grille. So get out your primer and paint and make sure to clear coat and let dry overnight.

Next day put on the grille and admire your paint job

Now its time for the chrome trim, this is what the packaging looks like.

Cut a piece to fit from one side of the grille to the other and apply slowly and apply pressure so its sticks well. Take your time!

Once it flush you can screw the gutter guard on, notice the 2 screws in this pic, these where strategically placed for maximum strength to hold it in place, there are 2 screws on each side. (Use the screws that connected the chrome part of the grille) Then you can paint or sharpie the screw tips black

You can see in this picture that the screws are hardly noticeable

And here is the final picture, im very pleased with the result and since I had all but the chrome materials already it turned out great

If you have any questions or help feel free to ask

Haven't seen many grill mods I'd consider but yours is an exception. Very nicely done.

Looks nice but if a rock were to hit it, wouldn't it leave a big dent in the mesh? It doesn't look very strong.

Nice! I agree with Ike: would like to see the durability of this grille over time... I wonder what can be done for the '03-'05 models??? Thanks for the write-up

thanks guys

as for durability, i can cut a new piece of gutter guard then screw it in once again using 2 screws in under 20 minutes, and its new again its replaceable, i drive on the hwy everyday and have had no problems yet.

Your question makes no sense. If a rock hits your car, it's gonna cause damage...period. I'd hope it hit the mesh instead of painted surface, headlights or windshield.

I'm hoping plastic, cause he did say you'd need to cut it.
