That transmission 'clunk'

You know that transmission clunk that happens when you change gears? Well I, and many others said it was normal. I don't abuse my transmission. I make sure to wait 1-2 seconds after a change before stepping on the gas.

Today, my transmission made a louder clunk than usual several times. I decided to satisfy my curiosity so I went to the dealership to test drive a 2012 and low and behold...there was no clunk sound. Maybe they fixed it? Who knows.

I showed the service guy and he admitted that he heard it. In fact, he admitted that he's heard it on many different Accords.

They have offered to replace my transmission with a new one under warranty, but I said I'd get back to him.

Should I go through with the swap? Isn't changing a tranny a fairly involved process? There isn't anything explicitly wrong with the current one, and I'm inclined to say "If it ain't broke...don't fix it"

Our 09' does not have a clunk changing gears while driving.

Never had one before and after replacing fluid to synthetic.

Upgrading to a new tranny under warranty will do you better in the long run.

I would allow the replacement, keep all the records and get a magnafine filter installed... dealer service may not warrant it, but they don't need to know.

Its easy peasy, and will keep particles from clogging up the internal filter which cannot be serviced.

They must know there is a major problem with it for them to replace it under warranty. I know its a major operation, but I'd do it. Make sure they have an experienced master tech working on it.

A "clunk" is not normal unless you were on an incline. That "clunk" sound could have been the parking pawl releasing itself. Were you on an incline and were you shifting out of Park when you heard the "clunk?"

Normally, your transmission should make a "click" sound, not a "clunk" sound.

If they're offering you a brand new tranny, hell, why not?
That is if you can afford to go without it for a week or so.
