You will likely just buy another car with its own host of issues/annoyances. I went from my 05 TSX with a number of little annoying characteristics.. to this Accord with its own set. lol.
I was already leaning on trading in my accord next year when money isn't so tight (graduation + government job lined up yay ), the extra dive on the value isn't that bad if you consider having a car that you'll be happy with for 8+ years versus one that I'm already banging my head against the wall with for only 1 year so far (vtc actuator, rattles galore, minor stuff here and there, underpowered/heavy car), hopefully one of my cousins who are entering college soon will buy it.

looking into a 9th gen v6 accord coupe or audi a5 (I have connections with a dealership so pricing isn't that bad)

they stopped producing them =\ they only come in the 2.0T version but with a reflash it can make around 230hp and 340lbft, prices range from 35k to 45k (31k for one with 40k miles yikes ) which is much more than a fully loaded v6 accord (29k)

we'll see how the market is next year

my 2010 Accord 2.4 is at the dealer with the same starter problem. Only happens on 1st cold start of the day. Sounds kinda like starter drive not meshing with flywheel. Will grind badly. Is spending the night at dealership. Told service rep. about the vtc actuator issue and he said the mechanic thought same thing but needed to hear it 1st. Car is also in because of wheel bearing noise up front. Only has 25k and sounds like a train going down the tracks.

Car is in the shop too ;P

2011 accord lx-s with 16442 miles, they left it overnight and diagnosed it as the vtc actuator, covered completely under warranty and they should have the part tomorrow morning, I'll most likely get the car back tomorrow afternoon or evening.

woo no hassles about aftermarket parts

Just got a call from service rep. Said mechanic determined it was the starter and not the vtc actuator. Were going to replace it if they had one in stock. If not they were going to order it. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Got the car back last Friday and morning start problem is gone. They replaced the starter. They also replaced drivers side front wheel bearing and that noise is now also gone. Sounds and drives like a new car again and everything was under warranty so I'm happy.

Me too!

I have an '08 Accord EX-L and have the same noise. Mine not only makes the noise on cold starts in the morning, but if it sits all day at work after 9 hours, it will also do it then.

I mentioned it to the dealer a while back when I had it in for oil change. They told me it was normal. It still really bothers me though, because it shouldn't do that. I think I will take it in again and mention the VTC actuator. Thanks for the info.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I have been enduring this terrible noise for the last 1 1/2 years. Mine will actual do it even after sitting for just 3-4 hours.

I am now hoping that my car has finally been healed from this terrible disease.

Thanks to this forum I was able to tell the dealer what I thought the problem was, and what do you know......after leaving it overnight, they said that the diagnostic tests confirmed that the VTC actuator was defective and they have replaced it. Luckily it was covered under the 5 year warranty not the 3 year. (I would have been over the 3 year, but would have put up a fight since I tried to resolve the problem before my 3 year was up and they were the ones that had told me it was normal....this was even noted on the dealer service tickets).

I get to pick up my car today. I am sooooo excited to no longer hear that annoying grinding noise and have people staring at me every time I start my car. YAY!!!!

Mine never does it warm weather. The only time it did was when I started the car after it was sitting for a few days. I don't think my car makes a grinding sound though. It's more like a humming sound or a wooooo sound. It only does it in cold weather. I have a thread relating to this.
