Leave the FF in until the MM indicates 15%. After that, change your oil and filter every 5k-6k.

Use the Honda oil filter while under warranty. Don't give them an excuse.

I'm assuming "FF" means "factory fill," as in the oil your car came with from the factory.

It's always the nature of the enthusiast to want to tinker with things......to "go better" than the manual demands, to wax more often, etc. messing with oil is the same. It's the one thing we can all do to satisfy this enthusiast itch.

The one single truth is these cars are commuter family cars. They are not built at all for high performance , where oil needs may be important. No one is tracking these cars here, they are daily drivers...

And for DD'S , going above and beyond the manual requirements, is satisfying your itch, but not doing much for the car. Use whatever Oil mfr meets the vis specs, chg at the required interval, and go wax your car.......

Quaker State!

Just jesting... But what happens to getting money from Quaker State once I hit the 300K mileage mark for using their oil. Heheheheh!!!

I am sure I will make 100K before my warranty!

I keep seeing people mention 0w-20 for these cars. My cap says 5w-20, I checked the user manual and it also says 5w-20. Why would you use a thinner oil? For the added wear but .001 better mpg? I mean MAYBE if you where way up north and wanted that lil bit ease of flow during start up during the winter but in the manual it states 5w-20 from like -30 to 100+ degrees fahrenheit so I'll be sticking with that. Does it matter that mine's an 09 Accord coupe EX-L V6 6-speed manual?

CAFE "Corporate Average Fuel Economy" is why makers went to 0W20.

Ok, makes sense. Mines got 1650 so far, and I think you change it when it gets to a year old if you don't hit 15% on the MM first.

I was told by the Guys in the Service Dept. that when the Engine life gets to 15 % call and make an apppointment for an oil change. Think my local dealer was doing a full synthetic oil change for about 42 i thought that was pretty reasonable.

Thought I would give my 2 cents

I guess it comes down to personal preference and what you feel comfortable with. At least you are using sythetic oil and then going by the maintenance minder, i do this with the wives 7th gen accord. Now to get to 15% varies due to how you drive, etc etc. But for me when my coupe reaches 4,000 miles i will do an oil change with sythetic royal purple, and the MM usually reads 60 or 50%. I simply do not feel comfortable waiting , some may disagree but no one can state you're wrong for servicing you're vehicle early.
Simply put, if you lease or are planning to sell the car then o k save money and perform less service but i usually get 10 + years out of a honda performing services ahead of schedule or and more often. Personal choice.

OoOoO lol next it's gonna come with four cats instead of three.

If you look in your manual for the 2010+ does it list both the 0w-20 and the 5w-20? I know weights depend of ambient temperature. I can't see using 0w-20 in 90+ degree weather.

Way over thinking what? What would you like me to read?

I want to use the correct oil for my car. What's over thinking?

When I read the owners manual it lists 5w-20 for the whole range of ambient temperatures.

The V6 accord has 3 cats and calls for 5w-20 and now the newer accord V6s call for 0w-30 to as "glen e" says to get a better epa sticker.
I was joking saying they're gonna put 4 cats on the next accord. Last thing is oil weight is chosen by the engine being used and ambient temperature.
Some engines list only one oil weight for the whole range of ambient temperatures, like my 09 accord V6, some list multiple, like my Land rover Range rovers. My question was does the 2010+ accords like 0w-20 & 5w-20? You use thinner weight oil in the cold and thicker in the heat. I know one of my rovers uses 5w-40 in the winter & late fall but in spring summer and early fall it calls for 10w-40.
