Unhappy 01 accord surges off idle.

I have a 2001 accord 4cyl.
Bought the car with a blown head gasket due to a broken head bolt.
After replacing gasket, engine starts and runs fine with smooth idle.
If I slowly crack the throttle, the engine surges like its hitting a rev limiter.
If you drive the car and slowly accelerate, it does the same thing, but if you romp on it it accelerated fine. Only code is a charge temp sensor code. The sensor was replaced but code still there.
I have replaced the TPS, no help. I replaced the MAP sensor and the engine would not start. (tried 2 new sensors) Starts fine with old one.
Double checked timing and balance shaft belts, both in time.
Please help its driving me crazy.

What number was the trouble code? Never heard of a charge temp sensor, so what sensor did you replace, inlet air temp, coolant temp?
Based on you MAP sensor experience, I would find another supplier that can provide the correct working sensor.

Did you clear the code after changing the sensor, either using a scan tool or disconnecting the battery? Some codes require multiple driving cycles before automatically clearing. We really need to know what code (number) is turning on the CEL before we can assist you. Parts stores will check the codes for free in most states, assuming you are in the USA.
