I would say Dan is right. True, it's best to do it regularly, but I think that Dan was saying that in the event that the fluid has never been changed, to suddenly change it all out after that much mileage could potentially cause damage.

Don't forget to change the filter. Do it more than once. As aforementioned, the Lube Gard will help. (It may even solve problems you did not notice or think to address before. Like the clunk that occurs when shifting into R.) I had much of the symptoms you are experiencing. Change your filter and do it often. 03 V6, 240,000 miles. Original owner, original transmission.

How long have you been using the LubeGard on that vehicle? I've always been reluctant to put any additives in transmissions, but lot of people seem to like this stuff

True. I just performed my 3rd drain and fill with DW-1. The first two were done roughly 15K miles ago. The tranny drain plug had no accumulation on it. The car shifts VERY well. I've only done one filter change at 80K but I plan on doing another soon. I'm at 137K now. I have a bottle of lubeguard red in my garage. It was meant for a previous car but I wont put it in my Honda. I've learned with cars to leave well enough alone.

I was more than reluctant. I was apprehensive, since Honda says to add nothing and use only their fluids. I had no choice though, I needed an inspection sticker and the CEL was on (torque converter solenoid stuck off). I did multiple fluid changes with no effect. After researching the Lube Gard, I used it and it worked almost instantaneously. Like a silver bullet. My shift problem came back after a several thousand miles. I cured that with a few filter changes. I still use the Lube Gard when I do a 3x3 drain. Now I'm looking for an aftermarket filter to install on the cooling lines. Anyone have any ideas?

Haven't I read the extra cooling line was either too much a hassle to make hardly any change? Just my thoughts, by no means am I saying it's not worth it.

When you use the lube gard, is that on the last fill or on each fill you add the quart?

M3 have you every replaced the transmission filter? at 60,000 miles i did a 3x3 d&r with DW-1 and changed the filter, the shifts are very smooth, if you havent changed the filter i highly suggest you do it, it cant hurt.

You may have misunderstood. I want to cut the cooling line to install an extra filter (the factory one is a hassle). I add the Lube Gard on the last fill.
