Yeah the shelf is a pain to take out. I'll think of a better idea then the socks, when i eventually take the shelf again. Prolly not till I decide Im ready to change the interior to black. But for now the socks work. I just have to push them back down inside every now and then cuz the bass pressure pushes them out

The shelf is annoying to get out as sleepy said. If you do this, make sure you complement the dynamat with CCF. Dynamat alone did not give me a rattle free rear deck (due to bass).

Any tutorials out there on how to get the rear shelf off? This looks like a great fix to a problem that's been bugging me for a while. Thanks!

I simply inserted a piece of cardboard between the shelf and the 3rd brake-light mounting clips. I did this 2 years ago and the rattle has not come back. The fix took me about 30 seconds.

Update--- I guess the sun and the heat shrunk my CCF strips to the point of not working, so I decided to do this mod. I used one of my lady's workout mats, which was 1/2". I couldn't get the shelf on though! I banged and forced it in, but when I played my tunes, the rattle was actually way worse! I'm sure it was due to a combination of the foam's thickness and me probably not cutting enough holes, but it was a chore. The brake light hump was pushing tight against the glass, and all the pins wouldn't go into place.

So I went to Walmart and bought a yoga pad that was 1/8" CCF and heavily stitched. I cut it, fit it, and put the shelf back in, and it sounds a LOT better! I was gonna buy the 1/4" pad but they were sold out. Since I don't use the rear speakers, I didn't cut out the 3 holes for them. This really helps isolate all the trunk noise, plus keeps the plastic and metal from rattling against each other.

Many thanks to bobster for this mod. I hope I never, EVER have to take that shelf out again!

Hey guys...I think I am the stupid one here...but if its a TSB, does that mean the dealer will correct the problem for free? Kinda like it was covered under warranty? My rear in my sedan rattles too from the sub and driving over bumps. So bad that I just turn the sub to -6 to stop it from rattling.

If it's under warranty and you have the stereo 100% stock, I'm sure they'll work with you. In my case, since I have aftermarket amps and a sub, I won't even bother expecting any help from a service department. You know what they say- "when you mod, you are your own warranty."

Anyone have a link to the actual TSB? Mine started doing this after my tint install.. I think they removed the rear deck.

Edit - Found it myself.. thanks

The reason my car was making popping noises was because of that small metal piece with two holes as you can see in the pic. I sort of pushed it in and the loud popping noises stopped ever since. Hope this helps someone.
