A fairly negative article from Car and Driver..
I don't agree completely but I do respect C & D.

I actually agree 1000 % with this. Honda's problem is not their engineers but their straying from their core values and mission. This set of front office execs does not know what they want, or their customer wants.....

honda in bad shape, but its not like they are going under. They just need a little shove in the right direction. No more car with beaks would help. RDX turbo moved into the tsx. V6 should be reserved for the TL, accord, TL, pilot, odysse, and MDX. CRZ needs a 2.0 high rev motor option instead of the eco hybrid only.
Civic SI needs a turbo and direct injection. Come on even the Koreans got DI on their cars. Revise the V6 for DOHC so that vtec and VTC can now be applied to both the intake and exhaust side. where is that honda racing spirit they are always talking about.

Honda won't go under, unlike the domestics, they don't have unions and a bloated pension program problem. They have huge cash reserves.
But they need a new direction at the top.

I completely agree. I think the Accord Coupe was the best choice, and still do, but their other offerings seem pretty pathetic. I think the Insight is a decent competator to the Pius, but they could do so much better. Too many features I would want in a 20-35k vehicle are reserved for the Acura in the 40-60k range. Turbo and LSD would be awesome.

After being a Honda fan since 1979. I have lost all faith in their cars. The build quality, styling and support for the customer has failed miserably. They need the old "We make it Simple" ideas back.

It's not like we want a lot but it would be nice for them to listen a little. I love Honda to the end but just so many features are missing. I would personally love HID's push button and power folding mirrors that are heated. A lot of the features I love are there but in the higher end EX-L like blue tooth hands free, auto climate control and navi but thats ok because it is there just higher end.

Yeah, I also feel Acura is draining Honda of everything good.
Also, it's NOT like Honda is going south. The Honda Accord (plug in) hybrid is rather unique, once you start reading into it. But it seems like their past core values of athleticism and conservative (read: hidden) designs hiding serious power have been slowly sapped away They still have great engineering (which is how they are still competitive in MPG tests, despite having 5 speed autos), but even that is going to be overrun sooner or later.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead. About Honda, once Soichiro Honda passed away, his company is not the same afterwards with the ruling with those corporate pencil pushers, they are the ones who killed the DREAM. You can look at the NSX for example it's pretty much the same car from 1990. Of course honda have to make up for the R&D that had spent on it but what major upgrade did it have? It came be side with the Civic too. In the racing word it's a joke. Formula 1, Honda had the winning chassis but pull out of F1 when they COULD have WON.

Meh, I think we gotta be careful of not being too smart by half here. Yeah Honda isn't coming out with cool and exciting stuff and yes the Civic looks cheap inside compared to the last gen but they still are the best built cars in the world.
I was just in the market for the last few months and checked out and drove a lot of different cars and the Honda's were head and shoulders above the rest. Yeah they're boring as all get out and you fall asleep looking at them but they're smooth as silk, comfortable, fun to drive, have maybe the best automatic transmissions in the world and feel like they're built by eye surgeons, oh yeah and they'll last 250,000 miles too AND they're cheaper than Nissan's and Toyota's. I think all Honda is guilty of right now is boring looking cars. I don't think they're in trouble. Now if they don't see the market responding to their boring designs, then they will be because superbly built cars wont sell nearly as well as cool, exciting cars.

OK. So I'm a Kool-Aid drinker cause I think Honda's are about the best cars on the road and don't think the lack of push button starters and HID's take from that? Yeah they need a kick in the pants and need to shake things up but that's a far cry from comparing them to GM losing BILLIONS every quarter.

Did you know for a long while that Honda auto transmission was junk? even the Honda Tech guys know about it. I wouldn't say the best build cars in the WORLD, BMW, Porches, Benz. Honda is a good car and a good engineered car. If honda jump in to the supercar game its already too late and far behind of everyone else. They were the ones to raised the bar and make every other company to step up their game.

You shouldn't compare the 2005 and below V6 transmission to the newer ones. Mine is amazing, even if it doesn't use the best technology available. They need to just jump over to using a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG), but my 2009 AT is pretty awesome. It got better with Amsoil ATF, but was pretty sweet before that too.
