Reset CD changer from mech err after removing CD's

A CD broke inside my 2005 Honda Accord EX 2.4 6 CD changer, while in a rear end collision. This was a while ago and didn't get it fixed along with the car's body. I tried to pry the CD out, and I kept hitting the eject button, and it would say mechanical error. I eventually disconnected the power, and since then, the CD selection is not even available. The load and eject button don't respond with any attempt anymore.

This past weekend, I removed the radio/CD unit, dissassembled the CD unit and pryed the broken CD's out of the player. I have now reassembled the unit. How can I get the unit to retry, and for it realize that the CD's are no longer stuck inside and that it can function normally?

Thanks, -Scott

You can't. Unfortunately, the 6-CD changer is dead. Once a CD jams in the mechanism, removing it won't reset the mechanism. Those stackers are a POS. Hop over to eBay and contact OEMCarAudio and they can find you a replacement CD changer module.

my 06 ex just got rear ended and now my 6cd in dash changer says"mechan error". Was your changer in dash, trunk, or other?

Man, I would've immediately complained about the disc changer and made the person responsible for the accident buy me a new / refurbished one. I'm not sure if you have tried this, as you had said you took the radio out and dismantled it, but have you disconnected the negative battery terminal for about 1/2 hour and then reconnecting it to see if you could reset the entire PCM and radio? Again, not sure if it'd work but can't hurt
