I would rather change my own oil, because I can use full synthetic for about the same price they use partial synthetic. Plus, I don't have to drive to the dealership, wait for them to do it, then drive back home. I also believe in, "if you want it done right, do it yourself", but of course that doesn't apply to everyone. Some people can screw up a simple oil change.

+1 I've seen it done more than once.

Nope, made by Conoco Phillips and excellent products.

I also switched over to synthetic and use mobile 1 with touch guard high mileage oil filter. I noticed my oil would be much darker quicker than with the synthetic. I change mine every 6-7K miles but it just depends how the oil looks when I check it. I didn't notice any change though as far as the vehicle drives etc

Why don't you go by the oil percentage?

The 03-05 Accords don't have the maintenance minder. I rather have the time mileage intervals myself, because I know what's coming up, without the car surprising me. I change the Mobil 1 every 4-5000 miles.

I haven't done my first oil change on my Accord yet but I'm planning on following the Maintenance Minder and taking it to the Honda Dealership to have it done.

My main reason is I can't really do it myself where I live now. Also the local regular shops are more expensive and I'll get to take a drive to the big city.

Bought my 06 with 66k back in May. Next day I changed to Pennzoil Ultra and Purolator PureOne Filter. I kept a close eye on oil level the first 1000 miles to make sure it was staying at level. Down to 50% oil life now at 70k and still full and still pretty clean.

the only way to really tell if the fluid is still good would be to send it off to analysis. there is obviously max life but an analysis will give the better results and they give details of the internal engin life.

Could you advise any reputable trustworthy companies for us to send in the oil to be analyzed?

I've only read about it here on DA and having the new car that I would love to keep another 100k this would be a good tell tale of what is happening to the engine, right?

Thanks in advance

Blackstone Labs is a popular choice. Yes the analysis after an oil change interval can sniff out some potential problems such as premature engine wear etc. as well as how long you can safely extend your intervals using your chosen oil/filter combo.

I actually went from Mobil 1 to good ol' castrol. No regrets here.
