Is 9k too much?

Hi, I'm going to look at an 03 EX sedan with i4 and 5mt tomorrow at a dealership and they want 9k for it and I'm going to try to get it for 9k otd. Is this too much. The car has 93k miles on it, is there anything I should look out for?

In my opinion, its too much for an 03 4-cylinder

It's not terribly high. If you could get it around $8k would be better.

My opinion...way too high. It's certainly NOT a certified used car with that mileage. Dealerships are asking a premium price for used cars and I simply won't pay.

I wouldn't think of paying one penny over 7g for that vehicle. You can find lots of used accords on craigslist, cars.com, autotrader.com, etc. if you're patient and willing to take a used car to a mechanic for a professional inspection.

Give me 8g and I'll find you a boat load of really nice early 7th gen v6 ex-l's . mileage may be a bit higher. 9g's for an '03 4cyl m/t??? NOT! Just my opinion.

Nada.com
Kbb.com
Edmunds.com

Add the three average values for the car you're buying, divide by three, that's what it's worth.

Can't see this being more than a $7k car.

Most dealers at that price point will knock off $2k from asking. I'd shoot for $7k out the door after tax. The car is almost 10 yrs old. I'm sure you can get a similiar one private party for that amount.

I'd shoot for somewhere around $7k as well. Got my '04 6-6 for $9,500 with new tires thrown in. 64,104 miles on the odo when I picked up.

Terrible deal. Look elsewhere unless they knock off a significant amount from their asking price.

I would walk in, act only somewhat interested, ask to test drive it (if it's smooth & all is good) I would firmly offer $7k out the door. If they decline, turn around and start walking out. They know the car is older and has "higher" (not for a Honda though) miles They will more than likely stop you and try to bargain. Stick to your guns, though. If they won't meet you at $7k, or at least $7.5k, leave.

G'luck!

I Checked the Values

You would be better off buying from a private party.

Assuming it's excellent condition this is what you will pay at a dealer. I just checked the values for this car online:

This assumes "Outstanding" condition, and with 93000 miles:

RETAIL from Dealer

Edmunds: $8,487
NADA: $9,850
Kelly BB; $11,400

Private Party Values
Edmunds: $6,994
NADA: ? Wasn't listed
Kelly BB; $9,469

Before buying run the VIN online at carfax.com and autocheck.com. If no red flags show on either site check out the car further.

Drive the car checking brakes, steering, AC, cruise, etc. Get on the freeway and see if the car pulls to the left or right when you let go of the wheel, see if the steering wheel turns when you hit the brakes (it shouldn't).

Open the hood. Look for corrosion on the battery cables, they should be clean. Take a flashlight and open the oil cap on the valve cover and look inside the hole with the light. If it looks shiny, clean and new inside it's been maintained well - this is the only way you want to buy it. If it looks dirty or grimy don't buy it.

Also check the transmission fluid and see how clean it looks. If it looks dirty don't buy it.

Give it some gas in neutral, see if any smoke comes out the exhaust.
