Nissan guy bought a Honda!

Hey Guys, I've owned Nissans since 1989 and just bought my first Honda. A 99 Accord EX V6 Coupe, for my 16 year old. That's a happy 16 year old. I wish I would have had a car this nice when I was 16!

I've been searching and reading and found a lot of info about the transmission problems. From what I'm gathering a lot of the problems are from lack of service and not using honda oil. I'm planning to service it like I do with my Quest van. Every oil change in the motor I do a spill and fill on the trans too. It's still going good at 160K. The accord only has 80K on it.
Any other problems I need to pay attention to?
Anyone have a link to download a service manual? I got the 3 day subscription to honda's web site but all I can find on there is bulletins.
The only problems the car has right now are the air bag light is on and the temp gauge stays almost all the way on cold. I found the spec's to check the sender and gauge on honda's web site but hadn't had a chance to check it yet.

Very nice. Looks like some front end work has been done. Since the front grille and lower grille should be black and not white I believe. It also appears the front end has been repainted. Notice the shade of white is different btwn the front fender and door. Pull a Carfax to see if any accident record exists and maintenance records. Have a dealer or good shop ensure the airbags are present. I wonder if a car flipper bought it cheap with front end damage and had it fixed.

Welcome to the DA boards, and congratulations on the purchase James!

Besides doing the typical maintenance on the Accord, I would check the front suspension bushings, and the axles as well. See if there's any evidence of torn rubber or boot.

It does look like the front shows a repaint, possibly from a front collision, so I agree with SatinSilver, and see if you could get a CarFax on her.

Also, check the 6th Gen forums, there's lot's of information there regarding your car.. well, your daughter's car

Damn SatinSilver, you got some lottery numbers for me? You guessed the cars entire history! I knew it was wrecked before I bought it but I checked it out good. It didn't have any structural damage, just the hood, front bumper, driver fender, head lights and grill have been changed. I got it cheap and it seams mechanically sound with low mileage. It shifts great right now but all the trans issues I've read makes me worry. The flipper I bought it from has a very good reputation and they mostly buy hondas. When I was at the motor vehicle office transferring the tittle I found out 3 people that worked there had vehicles from this same guy.
I used to work as an auto and diesel mechanic till I screwed up my knee so I still do all my own service and repairs. So I'm going to take good care of it. It's rolling my baby girl around so it has to stay in tip top shape!

There are also some old leaves under the spare tire.

That was always a favorite gen of mine. The 200hp the j30 has comes on strong not like she'd ever know but the 160watt stereo will keep her in her place.

It's always been a favorite of mine too. She has been showing me adds for used cars for probably a year now and I kept telling her she didn't need a car yet. When she showed me this one I went look at it. It has been nice to have a that extra vehicle though.
The insurance, with just liability, sure is high on this little car! When I added my little hunting truck on our policy, 87 nissan pathfinder, my monthly bill went up $8. Adding this honda on raised it $63!
The factory system had already been changed and she wasn't happy with it because it didn't have a usb for her iphone. I found a really nice sony touch screen for it that even plays dvds. It sound really good for factory speakers but now I'm thinking about a set of the kickers I've been reading about on this forum. A little fuller sound would be nice.
Also someone had put a cold air intake on it with the filter at the bottom of the fender. It sounded good when I stepped on it but this is south Louisiana, we always have water on the road somewhere after a good rain and I don't need a straw hanging out the front fender with a 16 year old blond driving it. And boy do I mean blond! The other day she was looking for whole grain popcorn! At least she is a straight A student so she should survive. I kept checking the pick a part until a 99 showed up and finally got the whole factory intake tube and air box for it. It sure has one giant box under the fender! I had to pull the bumper cover off to put it in there.
The motor idles smother with the factory setup hopefully it will get the same fuel mileage. It's been getting 21mpg in town.

What do you use to pull the RV trailer? I wouldn't recommend the Accord.

That pic was taken at my parents house, that's my dads camper. He pulls it with a dodge.
This is my camper, I pull it with my 06 Nissan Titan.

Here's some shot of camping in Chicot state park.

That poniac in the picture is my daughters boy friends, she has a lot nicer car than him!

Even has an outdoor kitchen.

Here's some crappy pics a buddy took when I passed his house.
