There's a special tool to remove the springs:

Ok, thanks kid. I found that too but who is to say that spring is tougher than the original without the spoiler. I keep hearing about needing "stronger" springs because of the added weight. I have the 03 coupe, benardi and college hills dont tell me a different spring.

Aside from that, do i REALLY need to pay $30 for a one time $3 part? WTF?
no luck on ebay or CL either, I'll hit up some local peeps. If bnot I'll just get a $300 hospital bill from trying to do it without the tool

The trunk pops up/releases still - mine never opened half-way...I wouldn't think that would be a good thing because if you were walking towards the car and a gust of wind or something came along, who's to say that it wouldn't aggressively fly your trunk lid open?

I like the fact that before and now after (I haven't seen a change) mine only pops up slightly. Maybe it's a 7th vs 7.5th thing?

If you get a responce from them about a cheaper shipping rate, can you PM me? I want the deck spoiler from them but its the same situation, 110 for the spoiler 80 for shipping.

No worries son. I'm probably older than you are. Btw, there's already a couple threads on the tool and how to do without.

My trunk still pops open normally, it just doesnt open halfway or even a quarter of the way. Thats just fine with me. It would be a waste of money to buy springs just to have it open more.

Looks great man. Love those coupes makes me wish I had one! When I put the spoiler on mine I did the same thing and left it. Who cares if it doesn't open all the way for me. Lol.

I would actually prefer if mine didnt open as much as it did. If I go this route I will not be upgrading the springs either.

Maybe the stronger spring is to help keep the trunk lid open, so it doesn't slam you on top of the head while you're in the trunk. The spoiler was already on my car when I bought it new from the dealership, so I don't know if the stronger spring was installed or not. I don't think the dealership installed the spring because my lid doesn't pop up at all, and it slams down pretty hard if you just let it go when closing. Anybody know how to tell the difference in the two springs? It's not a big deal to me, and the lid has never come down on me..............yet.

I've read in another thread that these springs will not make your truck pop open, but prevent it from slamming shut is its purpose.
It has also been said you wouldnt want the trjunk to pop all the way open in case a gut of wind came by and possibly ruin your hinges or worse. Aside from that, if you didn't mean to hit it, you are also inviting the less than nice people to your personals in your vehicle.

That's what I heard too. A spoiler adds weight to the trunk which is why heavier duty springs are used to help keep the trunk propped open. A strong wind could slam the trunk onto the back of your head or fingers. Ouch!
